Car Problem - Rear Brake Light?

My friend told me this fucker was out so I go over to Kragen, get a replacement bulb...put it in....nothing.

I switched the fuse, nothing. Is there something special when putting the bulb in? I just snapped it in.

The center and right light come on fine, only the left brake light comes on. I'm hoping this isn't too expensive of a repair, or can I do it myself or what the hell is the deal?

No, it should work fine, unless there is a lead out.... or maybe the brakes are out... drive real fast towards a busy intersection and then slam on the breaks and let us know what happens...

Check the socket, make sure there is nothing in it that might block contact with the bulb. Take a known good bulb (like the one from the other side) and see if it works. If it does not then you know there is a problem with the wiring/socket. Check the wires directly behind the socket, I have seen them break right at the point they connect to the socket. If there is no break there then you may have to follow the wire back as far as you can to see if you can find a problem. Also, see if there is a ground close to the tail light, make sure it is making good contact with a metal surface. If you have a test light/volt meter it will make all of this easier. The fuse controls both break lights, so does the switch so more than likely it is either the bulb/socket or wiring.

I went to check my brake lights once,comming downhill into a busy intersection........I told my mechanic that i pressed the brakes several times nothing happened....he said "IT sounds like you lost some fluid" well looking down on the stain on my pants i said "NO SHIT"!
