I know someone who works for a car leasing company in which dealers buy from (wholesale). I was browsing the listings today and see a 1999 Porsche Carrera 911. It is the coupe 2-wheel drive and has 62,150 km's (which is 38,618 miles). Here's the catch, from the description it looks like the car is an accident repair because of numerous repainted body panels on the left side. Here is the full description:

ENGINE LT ON
-------------------------------------------

I was doing some quick research and see that the engine light on is a common problem due to oxygen sensors given this is the first year model, so it may be because of that and not an accident. I will physically check out the car on Monday.

Thoughts on pricing??

i'd seriously doubt that car is accident free. it might've just been keyed to shit by some jackass though, so kinda hard to tell why half the car was repainted without an explanation from them.

Porsches are VERY picky beasts. the dickwad that married the whore (i guess technically he's my stepfather and she's my mother) had an 88 944. any little thing would set that car's computer off. his oil light would come on if he was a pint low. granted, that's a good thing that it came on, but 1 pint was enough to trip the sensor.

he found out that he was either driving the car too hard or too weak (there was NO inbetween in his driving style) and that's why he'd burn a little oil. once he adapted to driving it like a sports car, not beating the shit out of it, it stopped burning oil.

the check engine light may be on for something as simple as an O2 sensor. have them retrieve the codes and find out why the light is on. pretty simple thing to do.

dickhead had it in the shop every month or two because a sensor would go out. fun to drive but the maintenance was rediculous, and that's why he sold the car.

i got to drive the car a number of times. i was 17 and had my learner's permit, never driven stick on the street. first time i drove it we pulled out the apartment complex and i ran it 0-60 and then dug in hard to 3rd before i realized how fast i was going. he just about flipped out, but we still went and cruised around for an hour or so.

Extremely hard to say without seeing the car in person. I would go as far to say that any 99' 911 that runs is worth $20k but where I would go from there is a case by case basis. More than likely though this is a repo, and it's been treated like shit.....nothing worse than a grumpy German broad (Porsche). :)

Thanks guys. This company holds auctions every week and dealers bid. They don't let you drive the car, only start it. As for the info, that's pretty much all they provide you with (auction right). One of my bros is a mechanic and deals with high-end cars all the time, so he will know a lot about this Porsche. I'm just thinking it might end up being a good deal so I'm going to check it out on Monday. There are 3 pics of the car... one a 3/4 front shot of the left side (looks fine b/c it's been repainted and whatnot), another of the torn seat, and another of a scraped rim. I'd post them but don't know how to post pics.
