Capital One Ripped Me Off!

I got my September bill and noticed that they had raised the interest rates from 4.99% to 13.9% on purchases and from 19.9% to 24.9% on cash advances. I called them to find out what was going on and they informed me that they mailed out a letter changing the terms. They said that they weren't making enough money off of me at my old rates. Anyway, I never received the supposed letter that they sent. They're required to offer an option to "opt out" of the new terms but you must close the account. I told them that's what I wanted to do. Three people including one that was supposedly a manager told me basically "tough luck, we're not responsible for the post office". That's bullshit. How do I know that they even sent it? I have a $6,500 balance. Somehow they have down that $1,000 of it is in cash advances. I took out one cash advance for $300 two years ago. This is a huge change in the contract that is going to cost thousands of dollars more. They should be required to send the notification by registered mail. That's total bullshit to just say "Well, we mailed it, it's your fault". One of the bitches I talked to even accused me of throwing it in the trash! The irony is that if I were to send my payment by mail and it got lost they would slap a late fee and god knows what other penalties. If I called them to ask for the late fee to be waived they would tell me that it's my responsibility to make sure the payment is received on time. It's funny how they don't think it's their responsibility to make sure that I receive the notice of contract change.

Actually they don't even have to send you anything. When you signup for your card, in that pages and pages of fine print, they can pretty much do anything they want and they know the most you can do is bitch. They don't care.

Move that to another card or get a personal loan. I haven't had a CC since age 18.

When they did it to me I stopped paying them all together. They sent me to collection that was almost 2 years ago. I fucked my credit but I said fuck them they aint getting their 20G's haha fuck them bastards.

NOT A DAMN THING BECAUSE THOSE CAPITAL ONE BASTARDS STOLE ALL OF MY MONEY!

As for someone that said they are not required to notify you, that
is not correct. They must give you 45 days notice.

Well I'll be damned that went into effect two weeks ago! When did this happen??

Should Credit Card Issuers Send a Notice Before Increasing Interest Rates - Interest Rate Increase Notice

Changes Effective August 20, 2009
Starting August 20, 2009, new credit card rules require credit card issuers (and lenders) to give 45-day advance notice before increasing your interest rate, even for penalty rate increases.

pay your balance off every month and you don't have to worry about what the interest rate is.
+1
and if you need a credit card, get an amex

I luv the hell outta the amex

If you have a cash advance from two years ago that still isn't paid off, you're doing this all wrong.

My cash advance was $300. How did it grow to $1100 when I've been paying 2-3 times my minimum payment? I looked on my last 2 statements and I made $400 in payments but the cash advance balance only went down 6 cents. That's right, out of $400.00, only $0.06 went towards the cash advance balance. WTF!

I think that's cuz the interest on cash advances is higher - so your payments gets applied to the non-cash advances first. You would start affecting the cash advances once the purchase amounts are paid off.

That's what happens when you use a credit card to live beyond your means, then make mickey-mouse payments that will take forever to really dent what you owe. Time to take a good hard look at your expenses, and cut one or more so you can put more substantial payments down on what you owe. If that means living with only basic cable, do it. Low-speed net instead of high-speed net, do it. You have to find real savings in your budget so you can pay down that high-interest debt.

truth right there.

write down every single thing you spend money on every day over the next month. All your bills plus everything else. Every dime you spend. Take a look at that and you should be able to easily find stuff you can cut out or buy cheaper.

You can probably find another hundred or few hundred dollars a month you can put towards that high interest debt...if it truly bothers you that much. Pay that shit off.

creditors hate me...i owe them 23000... no way in hell there getting anything.. i have about 40 numbers stored in my phone NO ANSWER lol

Its the biggest and best scam in North America.
Loan sharking in the form of a small piece of plastic.

Buy everything you need then just stop paying them. They call you every day for 3 years then give up :D

Carrying $6,500 on a credit card was just a bad idea in the first place. If you can get a bank to loan you the amount, you will do much better on the interest rate but likely the problem is that you were living beyond your means as mentioned earlier (or possibly you had a one-time tragedy that got you into debt.)

Either way, it's time to get your finances in order. Go to the library and check out Dave Ramsey's "The Total Money Makeover". He gives the best financial and get-out-of-debt advice I've ever heard. If the library doesn't have it, request it through a inter-library loan. Here is Dave's web site:

Real Debt Help - Get out of debt with Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover Plan.

Capitol One is the WORSE bank ever, when you call them guess where you're calling....? Costa Rica, LOL :lmao: and here they pay like $600 a month so they are REALLY saving money with the whole outsourcing, when you work in their callcenter you are required to leave ur purse and all ur belongings in a locker outside, you cant even have a pen or paper in your micro cubicle.... it's a very awful job.... working forn Capitol One or for GE (that's right, general electric) is the lowest you can fall here....

dude you basically stole 23000 from them?

anyway..... AMEX was voted best CC again this year by customers.

I like Capital One - I use the fuck out of their rewards points. Amex as well. I pay almost everything on credit card and pay off the whole balance every month and cash in points for hotel bills and airline flights.

They are a bill consolidator and a vacation provider for me.

Of course it was e-tards! It gives the customer the advantage and rapes businesses. Their fees are DOUBLE everyone else to accept them as a form of payment, thus many places still wont accept it. And they'll never have to either, since all of you Amex users carry a backup Visa/MC on you. PWNED!!!

If you have ever had a time when you got ripped off by a business that refused to correct their sorry ass problem/product or tried to triple you bill for shit you never ordered or signed up for, you would think AMEX was the greatest card in the universe.

I spit on anything that doesn't take AMEX.

What does getting ripped off by some business have to do with the card? I've had my identity stolen twice on-line, two different cards were used without my permission, one a MC and the other Visa. The only 'business' I had problems with was Microsoft, but that had nothing to do with the card companies. Both MC and Visa covered the fraudulent charges.

Just download black and white list for your blackberry the fuckers go straight to voice mail and their computers leave you an important msg. this goes on for a few months till that collection company gives up...then the CC company sells your account to another agency and they start all over. shit can go on for a few years though.

make sure you already bought all the shit you want/need.
I have a 2003 Chevy 4x4
2003 Chevy van and 2006 Maxima so I'm good to go for a minute I know I got to take care of these cars and keep them for hella long time :D

lol @ you guys. lol

I'm taking out a 401K loan and paying all that shit off. I've learned my lesson. I looked at my expenses and a lot of it was stupid things that I didn't need. About one third of it was medical expenses. I got rid of some things I don't need. For example I downgraded my Netflix from the $20.00 plan to their $6.00 plan. I wasn't renting enough to justify the unlimited $20 plan. I used to have my gym membership set up to come out of my credit card automatically every month along with Netflix. That was $70 right there. Then add the finance charges and it would take more than $100 of my payment before I even hit the principal balance. I was paying as much as I could which ranged some months from $150 all the way up to an occasional $500 payment.

OK, life lesson learned.

that was a joke..my income is down about 40,000 this year and i cant afford to even eat a sandwich right now

That's why interest rates, healthcare, etc etc are so high. You gotta pay for the people that have self entitlement that think they shouldn't have to.
