New member
I love salmon, I usually eat fillets however got a good deal on some canned stuff. Anny good recipes ???? I usually do like cakes or a loaf with the canned stuff. Just looking to get it down, with the canned stuff the simpller the recipe the better. How about a cold salmon dip ??

I love fish of all varieties.....cod, salmon, swordfish, :p

Not so much shrimp though, unless dipped in sauce.

Velvett your beautiful, thanks babe....The first one I do all the time, very good. I put spaghetti sauce on top of them kinda warm unno with the chunky tomatoes. Then a dollop, yes a dollop of fat free sour crem on top of those...MMMM ok im hungry...K to u.

I think a cold dip would be pretty good. just have to watch the white sauces found in dips. But could use like Fat free cream cheese or mayo...not sure

For the Salmon Burger that Velvett posted, you can also sub Oatmeal (ground or whole) for the bread as the binder :).

For a Salmon Dip...

2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
12 ounces smoked salmon, chopped (I guess you could use canned :))
3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
3 drops hot pepper sauce
1 teaspoon chopped fresh dill weed
2 tablespoons chopped green onion

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIRECTIONS:
In a medium bowl, stir cream cheese until it is no longer in a hard form. Add salmon, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, dill and onion; mix well. Serve. ( I'm sure it's better after being refrigerated for a while :p )

YUP!

works well
or you can use leftover rice

:p

Yeah kind of like tuna, but tastes much better. Salmon fillets cooked right, teryaki marinated and grilled preserving the juices is my favorite. The can stuff is a little different. . Though....Kind of like tuna either way.

1) Watch for the bones.....some of the canned varieties have a lot of bones

2) I like to: mix the salmon with some minced veggies like peppers, cucumber, radish, scallions, celery, onions + spices + 1 tblsp FF mayo + 1 tblsp FF sour cream + a little Apple Cider vinegar, then eat on crackers....

What is the best brand of canned salmon to buy? Alot of it looks like it has alot of sodium in it. I bought some of that Double Q stuff because I thought it looked good then I go to open it and it just didn't look right. It looked kinda gross.

Canned Salmon isn't pretty. I like to use it for salmon burgers. Try the salmon in the pouches.

I make a variation of the salmon burger using

1 15 oz can of salmon
1/2 cup of eggbeaters
1/2 cup of oat bran or oatmeal as a binder
1/2 cup of onions chopped roughly
a little diced celery
garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste.

Fry it up in a non-stick pan with olive oil cooking spray.

Omega 3's are effected by light, heat and oxygen. The process involved in canning salmon lessens this EFA.

The salmon found in a bag (pouch) is a healthier choice.
