My Aunt, 71 never been married, kind of a old battle axe.

Highly educated, wealthy...

Complete hysterectomy and a bowel resection of the last 14" of her cecum (anus and up) 3 years ago, chemo...

That's 2 organ system folks, that's metastisis, really bad.

Lives on coffee, cigarettes and alcohol.

She's back on chemo, it's in her lungs now.

She still lives on coffee, cigs, booze.

I guess for some not scary enough. :worried:

thats ok, its been 13 years since then.

But I wouldnt wish on anyone seing their loved ones getting to look skinier and looking by each day until their face reminds you already of a dead person

Its definitely a tough one for anyone to handle. I've lost a a friend and a couple relatives to its ravages. I wish we understood more about what causes it, how to prevent it, and how to stop it. Some cancers just don't respond to any forms of treatment.

The worst is when someone you love has cancer, and decides to try a course of chemotherapy with a 10% chance of it working. They end up living out the last days of their life miserable, holding on to the slim hope that they will somehow be an exception.

I lost a relative to lung cancer, he was diagnosed in March, and was gone by September, there wasn't a thing the doctors could to do stop it :(

Wootoom if someone close to you is suffering from it, I wish them the best of luck. If you ever want to talk, I'm here.

When I was about 17 one of my best friends that I grew up with was diagnosed with Leukemia. I pretty much saw every day what he had to go thru and I couldn't imagine having to deal with that. He fought and fought and eventually went on to become a trophy winning BBer AND PLer. He was my inspiration to begin training.

my grandmother got lung cancer and passed away at 76. never smoked a day in her life. went out for a walk one day and collapsed.

my uncle got brain cancer and passed away at 47. its tough watching a guy you use to wrestle with, watch him and my dad run marathons, just all the sudden not be able to use one side of his body and just deteriorate in front of your eyes.

my aunt had breast cancer and had to have one of her boobs removed. she lives still today.

oh, and i have had pre-cancerous cells removed from my body already. sun = nono for light featured people.

I've lost a number of uncles and aunts to cancer, and someday will lose my father to it too.

My mom bro, she died January 27, 2005 after fighting for her life for 14 months after being given a death sentence by her doctor. Stage 4 terminal lung cancer. She is my hero for all that she endured yet remained proud of who she was and strong in the face of death. I can only hope to be half the person she was.

i am what i am said:

Me too.

It's not a matter of if, but when.

He's had prostate cancer, skin cancer, and leukemia. The prostate was treated successfully years ago, the other two are an ongoing battle. He's on chemo again right now.

my grandma on my moms side,it was 2 days before my birthday, she was a lovely lady, just too stubborn to goto the docs and they caught it too late

Yeah, I lost my mother in December to cancer. It was lung cancer that metastacized to her liver, pancreas, brain, bones. She was only 58. The last months my home looked like a hospital. My days consisted of changing diapers, trying to feed her out of a syringe, administering tons of liquid morphine just to keep the pain down enough for her not to be moaning in her sleep. It was the most awful thing that has ever happened to me. I wish cigarettes were banned.

your mom is now an  watching over you. (((((HUGS)))))

my Dad. when it was finished with him, he had 11 fatal diseases. it spread like wildfire and in a matter of days took him from a completely capable person to someone who couldn't speak or even drink on his own. i spent the last few days feeding him popsicles and wetting his mouth and face with a sponge. deep down inside, i will always resent people who haven't had this experience.

yes, the lemon flavored sponge things that you use to clean out their mouths. God, when she passed away in my living room that night, I just started throwing all that shit out -- threw out the drugs, the sponges, the breathing treatment cartridges, etc, etc.

Calling hospice and having them come to my apartment and carry her out was the worst thing. They started to cover her face, and I went to uncover it. I said that I didn't want her all covered up like a package. I was upset and wanted her carried out as my mother, not as just some dead "body."

Thanks MSam! yes, I know she is in heaven now

alot of respect for u man. lucky to have a son like u

when my mom died, she died in a hospice facility. her room looked like a bedroom. with nice dressers and closets and an entertainment center. i was there holding her hand when she took her last breath. when i got home, her hopsital bed was still in the living room. i had to look at it for two days before the med supply people came and got it. jerks

one last thought: funny how things happen. i have been thinking about my mom a lot lately. my father (whom i still live with) has a "lady friend" he has been seeing. i got home from work today and he said she was on her way over to spend the night. never saw that coming, never even met her. so i am hiding in my room loathing in self pitty and came across this thread...what are the odds???? i had a chance to read others experiences and found comfort in knowing i am not alone. not trying to turn this into a mushy "i love you man" post, but really, thanks guys.

it fucked me up. i'll always be weird inside for burdening this. i was only 24 when it happened, not ready to deal with shit like that. sitting in the living room trying to watch tv and pay attention while what i was really doing is listening to labored, sporatic breathing. i thought every breath was his last. this went on for days. my chest would tighten up after every lengthy pause, and then he would breathe. then i would breathe. like i said, people who haven't been this close to death, i fucking hate you.
