Can You Help Me........

decide which colour to go with for my new SUV? The colour I originally wanted isn't offered anymore, which was the Midnight Blue, so now I guess I'm trying to decide between silver or black. I'm leaning toward the black.

Also, any feedback on whether to choose 2.7l or 3.5l? The deciding factor will not be gas necessarily. I like power in my vehicles, and although I briefly test drove the 2.7 and it seemed ok, I am concerned about how it would be on hills and highway. ;)

set it off w/ silver, dark tint on the windows and custom factory chrome 18`s...I bet that would look nice, plus black is a mother to keep clean....every little spec and scratch shows......

good point but doesn't black look more sleek? what about the engine?

Go with black but treat it with respect.

You should have seen the midnight blue. It was awesome. It was metallic and like a two tone when the sun hit it.

3.5 or 2.7l engine? anyone?

I think it depends on what you are using it for, if it's just going to be used as a grocery grabber and to get from point a to point b then go with the smaller engine and conserve fuel costs.

Nix that..I'm a woman who likes POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :qt:

Go with Silver and the 3.5L.....Black has a low resale value as does Red and Green...You have kids, Black is very hi- maintenance....interiors should be Charcoal, Silver/gray, Black- Tan or beige should be last choice- again poor resale, and difficult upkeep...

Why is that?

Engine wise you really got to go with 3.5liter cause hyundai doesnt employ the use of lightweight materials in its SUV.

In other words............its one heavy motherfucker. 2.7l V6 isnt bad for smaller hyundai's suv "Tuscon", but "Santa Fe" will seriously struggle........only 184 horses and about 200 foot pounds of torque........NOT ENOUGH to propel such a heavy vehicle at adequate speeds on highways, much less on a steep uphill or under a heavy load (me after shopping for beverages and food).......go witha 3.5, wont make much difference gass wise, and as a matter a fact, it might be more gass efficient.

Midnight blue is my fav colour too ;)
This looks good:
http://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicle/santafe/exterior/color.aspx

I would take the 3.5l

for your sake i'd go with the silver 2.7l

the 3.5l only has 30 more ponies and 40 more lbs of torque (2.7 and 3.5 are both V6's anyways), your main concern should be a nice looking/riding SUV that gets good gas mileage when you don't have to use 4wd in those canadian winters

however, for the price and resale value I would think about the 3.5l...if it's only another $1,500 - $2,000...get the bigger engine

here, compare for yourself:

i'm not trying to neg you out or rain on your parade, but i rented this same truck a few months ago in florida and i have to very blunt - it sucked.

what about a rav4 or something - is there much of a $ difference?

Black only appeals to a small percentage of buyers/consumers...Black cars- unless HP auto's/Exotics are never kept up, and even when they are the paint looks like shit...very High maint. Extremely hot interior temps depending on where you live...

What's funny about a Hyundai?

Other than being a piece of garbage, have little resell value and look fugly, you're right, there's nothing funny with a Hyundai. Wait a year or two and you'll be able to buy your Sante Fe for half the price....lol

Word. Most people cant even take care of their own body so need to wonder why their car look like crap after 2-3 years. Black looks good on any car, Ferrari, Ford Focus, Escalade, BMW.

Btw the RAV4 is a great alternative. Reliability, easy to resell and look so much better. Oh and it's a real 4X4 not just AWD...

you guys rock

i think i'm going to get the 3.5...but i'm seriously pissed that i can't get the midnight blue..the other blues aren't great at all

everyone has silver...black shows dirt but will probably look nice when i add the side step bars and front chrome bar.

yay to heated seats and automatic starter when it's cold

Do you even know what you're talking about? Maybe you should check your facts. The popularity has skyrocketed, and the reviews and ratings have done very well. I don't know one individual who isn't happy with theirs, and I've asked alot of owners.

I don't think it's ugly at all. The styling is great and stands out next to the boring square shape of the other SUVs. which drive like tin cans. It's a beautiful smooth ride, and offers excellent passenger space and comfort. I've researched and test driven them all. It's the best one in it's category, as far as I'm concerned.

Take a look at any Used car website or car lot and compare the value of a Sante with a RAV4. No match. Sorry. Same goes for an Accent vs. Echo/Corolla. Hyundai has improved their cars for the last few years, you're right but it's still ages behind Toyota, Honda and even Mazda. Never wondered why Hyundai Canada is almost giving away their cars for free lol ? Dude, buy whatever makes you happy.

Honestly the rav4 does absolutely nothing for me. It's boring and puny. Test drove it and wasn't impressed.

as long as you've done your homework and it's not an impulse buy - dullboy says enjoy your shiny new ride. :) a new car is one of the best highs and it lasts for a couple of months.

HYUNDAI IMPROVES DRAMATICALLY IN QUALITY SURVEY

USA Today

In the J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey out Wednesday, Korean automaker Hyundai Motor America shocked the auto industry by scoring a virtual dead-heat with quality leaders Honda and Toyota, tying Honda with 102 problems per 100 vehicles and just one point behind Toyota.

Driven by that extraordinary improvement by Hyundai, Korean manufacturers now rank higher than European and U.S. automakers for vehicle quality based on complaints reported by customers during the first three months of ownership. "A decade ago, as Korean manufacturers struggled with a universally poor reputation for vehicle quality, none would have predicted they could not only keep pace, but actually pass domestics and other imports in terms of initial quality,"

Hyundai's one year improvement was so great, and so altered this year's industry average that automakers like Ford, GM and DaimlerChrysler, which improved in quality and handily beat last year's industry average of 133 problems per 100 vehicles, remained below this year's much lower industry average of 119 problems per 100 vehicles.

Because of an aggressive campaign by the Korean company to eliminate squeaks and rattles and improve the ride of its vehicles, Hyundai owners reported fewer problems per 100 vehicles than owners of most of its rivals including Toyota, Nissan, Chevrolet and Ford.

Hyundai jumped 16 rank positions from last year, improving 29% to seventh place. Between 1998 and 2004, Hyundai improved quality by 62%, twice the improvement of the industry as a whole.

Hyundai Sonata topped all entry-level mid-sized sedans in Power's ranking, topping Chevy Malibu, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

Yes girlfriend, I plan to buy what makes me happy.

I think you need to lay off Manny just a little bit.. He's not trying to diss your choice of car, he's mearly trying to help you make a good choice and all of his information was correct.. I worked for a Toyota dealership for almost 2 years and the Hyundai dealership was next door.. Their cars are one of the worst cars at reselling.. So it might be cheaper at first but you should consider that also. Another Toyota SUV you could consider is the Highlander.. I'm sure they would please you with the power.. If a new one is out of your price range you could always consider going with a used one that was 2 years old or something.. Toyotas and Hondas last forever and have awesome resale value.. Hope this helped.. Don't take it was a bomb like you were previously either.. the others were just trying to help you make a good choice.

And I appreciate your help, but I'm not concerned about the resale value, otherwise I think I may have included that at the start of my thread. And judging from his last comment, and the one before simply stating that it is ugly and a piece of garbage, I don't think he was interested in being helpful or constructive.

I think Manny can handle himself, and while we're on the subject, he stands apart from the other Mods in my opinion and I think many individuals know exactly what that means.

I stand apart ? Really ? Thanks for this comment. Very rewarding especially from a newbie who's been here for a month and already realized that I was unique. I wish you and your Sante Fe a prosperous life
