"Can you do me a favor?..."

stilleto said:
i have set them, but she knows we are good friends, so she tries to push them. that's what gets me angry. I said no today, and the other day when her son wanted to come over on a school night, and i KNOW i'm going to say no next time too- i just hate the fact that she asks.
neither of us have any family near us, its just that she NEEDS more help than me, so the favors never balance and i'm tired of it.

I had a friend like that.......Maybe she is clueless to how much of a pain she's being.
It's a tough situaiton b/c you don't want to rock the boat, but she is making you uncomfortable always having to say no or to avoid her.
I would allow my friends to push and push, then I would get bitter.
I'm at a point in my life now where I could care less if ppl dislike me for being honest. If they cannot repsect me, then it's better they are not my friend.
Most ppl will respond well to honesty.

I'm all for that
USUALLY
but... think about this: the honest reason is that I don't like her kid. He's immature and it's like having a 7 year old at my house. there's no 'rules' i can give him, because its not one thing in particular- it's have a young, active boy running around, chasing the pets, eating and drinking, bothering my other kids, going in and out, making noise, asking me questions, watching my TV, playing with things and leaving them out, etc. Its me not wanting to be bothered with another kid, even if it is my good friend's.

I can't tell her THAT. she would have my daughter over anytime, but i've never needed her to and my daughter is a young lady- very well behaved and neat and quiet. other neighbors have said she's over ANY time- she's a pleasure, and told me they won't let my friend's son over.
The difference for me is- i have a daughter his age and two older boys- other neighbors don't, so they have excuses to not watch him. They can just say they won't be home, and its fine because he would rather come here anyway.

i'm going to just keep saying no and making excuses until she stops asking. i'm mostly just annoyed that i have to keep coming up with excuses, but i know she probably feels like she has nobody else to ask.

Ugh......I see your point.
Keep telling her no and if she doesn't stop or asks why, tell her her son is disruptive. Maybe she needs to hear it to maybe make this boy act his age.
Sometimes parents are clueless to how their kids behave.
But yeah, she's sucked up enough of your energy. so just avoid her for now.

1. SHE KNOWS she has noone else to ask.
2. She knows her kid is a terror and has probably been told so by other neighbors.
She's pawning him off on you to give HERSELF a break.

Write a letter explaining it, put it in her mailbox....hopefully the kid won't find it first.

i think she probably has burned her bridges, or she doesn't like what goes on at other's houses. I think if i ever let her kid here, i'm going to have 'the hills have eyes' on continuously and open alcohol out on the kitchen table.

that'll put an end to it.
