can you catch aids from a cat?

just wondering if aids can be contracted from a cat or any other type of animal? i mean if my cat was to find a syringe in a dust bin and lick the blood could it catch it?

the next time you have unprotected sex with your cat (or share needles) you may want to consider the consequences!!

(sorry, i couldn't resist. are you kidding!?!?)

no, AIDS is one of multiple opportunistic viruses that a non-HIV infected person would generally not be susceptible to. But yes, you could get the HIV virus from a cat, if the cat had the HIV virus and you drank its blood, or shared needles with it or something along that lines.

It is theorized that the HIV virus was spread to humans by monkeys, more specifically they were being slaughtered, had some form of HIV and the humans injested the blood somehow and got the virus. (Run on sentence)

that is assuming the hiv virus affects cats. we know it affects humans and monkeys but felines may be immune to it. who the hell knows? has there ever been a case of a cat being HIV positive? the most ridiculous thread in EF history.

the most ridiculous thread in EF history. - ...but WAIT! I can even make it even MORE ridiculous! My Primary care doctor (the one that doesn't give me AAS and Test) specializes in a very obscure area of AIDS, Cat scratch disease. That's right, if you are already infected with HIV, you can get some nasty infections from scratches from a cat. That's why PWA's that own a cat need to take Bactrium seven days a week instead of three, to prevent for this. Thanks! Alan.

my apology to michael21 if i came off callous or sarcastic. your question struck me as funny but it could have been an honest concern for whatever reason. :)

I actually wondered from a different perspective. I contracted HEP C from a blood transfusion as a kid. We had a demonic cat that would hide and then jump out a actually shred your legs and ankles. My daughter had a birthday party with her girl friends over. The cat as usual attacked me and drew considerable blood. Then ran into the girls room and did the same thing to one of her friends. The little girl was freaked out and bleeding.

Probably very unlikely, but my first thought was could the cat possibly of infected the girl with it's claws. I was a little wacked out at the time due to the interferon treatment for the disease, but needless to say the cat ended up going to a farm where it became a most valued mouser.

A pray for the little girl she would never be burdened with a disease like it or any other.

What do you mean by 'cat AIDS.' If you mean feline leukemia, then it is possible - regardless, you cat should go to the Vet any way. I only know that Bactrium seven days a week works to prevent, not sure about treatment. Thanks! Alan.
