can someone recommend a dog?

my dog died last february, and after my mom crying for two months she finally got over it... i thought...

we agreed we wouldnt get a new dog because our lsat one got diabetes and it was SO much work to give her shots twice a day and be there when she eats and plan everything around her, (which did for over a year), but now whenever my mom sees a dog she says she wants tone so i think my dad is gunna get her one.

the last dog we had was a bichon frise (sp), and shes buriedi n my front lawn.

so can anyone recommend a smaller dog, that doesnt shed, is pretty friendly, but doesnt get as many medical problems as bichons (apparently its common for them to get all sorts of fucked up diseases...my old dog was a wreck, she had to have expensive knee surgeries -couldn teven handle stairs after that- diabetes, constant bladder infections)

Either a beagle or a west highland terrier.

I have both, and they are both intelligent, loyal, friendly, etc. The thing with beagles is that sometimes when they get older they may endure some hip problems, but thats usually not a big deal.

they are cockerspaniels and poodles. supposedly very good natured, easy to care for, and like poodles, they don't shed much or at all.

BTW, the west highland's fur is hypoallergenic, if thats important to you. And it barely sheds unless you rip the fur out of it...in which case you are a bad owner and I hope you get some sort of STD.

Lots of puppies at the pound usually. Just may have to make a couple of visits over a few week period to find the one you want..

Yes they are. Mine is 5 and we have only had one bad back episode. THe vet said it was because he jumps from the couch, chair, etc.

Said to make him stop doing that. Impossible!

My mom is allergic to EVERYTHING. My parents have always had min. schnauzers without any problems. They have quite the personality.

Yeah, we have a min pin. They are great dogs, but so full of energy its almost not funny. The only time she sheds at all is if you are wrestling around with her. Then she will leave a few hairs here and there.

my parents dog is blonde with a stripe of red down his back....talk about beautiful...our last dog passed away at 9, she ended up with some blood problem that is commen in female cocker spaniels....she was pure red....they are both americans but the new dog looks more like a springer..i am trying to convince him to show the dog, he is looking into studding him...i guess the blood line is outstanding...

not really i find that they vary...my grandmother has 2..one is crazy,the other is silent and extremely shy...my moms last one was layed back didnt like to play and barked all the time, her new one is crazy beyond belief but hardley ever barks

Mines a female.. She was born and noone wanted the female so I actually got her for free from a friends parents. They were going to take her to the pound.. At first I got her shots, and had her papers, and was going to sell her and make some money, but I decided to keep her. She lives with my parents now as they grow older for something to keep them busy and keep in their mind that they have a gaurd. I will eventually get another one, but she's still mine. I see her regularly apart from traveling, school, and business stuff. Just getting close to a year old now, and she's fucking huge.. I think you may of missed the story, a while back ago, that I posted about her eating a cc vile of test prop.. I think that aided in her growth a bit.. That and I started feeding her high in protein dog food, with a spoon full of cottage cheese as well to help her bones develop, and not let the juice go to waste.. No bad effects of it.. I'm sure it hurt a bit when she shit the vile out though

We have 3 Female Chihuahuas..
All 3 are different in size, coat, shape and temperment.
Very sweet, Very very smart, very loving and very protective..

I though I would hate them, only knowing about them from the skinny shaking frail ones I had seen on TV etc. Taco Bell..

I must say that is far from reality, and that they have attitude for their size.
No one is getting in the house or anywhere near it without you knowing about it.

I do hate it when the doorbell rings and all 3 haul ass in attack bark mode to the door.

A mongrel is likely to be more robust genetically.

The alternative is to get a cross of purebreeds with the characteristics you're looking for. Bloodhound/Great Dane/Mastiff would make a fine combination for a dog that could probably bench more than its owner. I'd throw in some St.Bernard for a deadlifter.

I know that it's very good for larger dogs that grow fast. With a doberman for example... When they're legs grow, as fast as they do, they're legs will start to bend out, to the point where it kind of looks like a bulldogs legs. So the cottage cheese helps the bones stay strong, and grow properly. If not done, sometimes the dogs can have a lot of problems with their legs when they get older. I also fed a tblspn of vegi oil a day to help with her coat, keeps her nice and shiny, and helps prevent dry skin. Vitamins 2 times a day as well.

I have a Pug and he is awesome! Phenomenal personality. Very smart dogs.
They do shed some though - they have hair not fur. If not bred properly they can have hip problems however if you get one from a reputable breeded they are fine.
