Can someone explain something...

In the past I was looking for a good place to pick up Avena Sativa..

I had a thread on it and a few people gave me some places to go.. it was not big deal...

Also, people have asked, what is your favorite protein? Muscle Milk, Isopure, Designer Whey, etc..

So in one case I'm asking for a retailer.. the other just a brand.. and BOTH are perfectly fine.. that is the power of this board. Those are legal products and we can discuss them.

Obviously if someone who worked for any of those companies or retailers was on the board and constantly was "plugging" the products, that would be an unfair use of the boards for monetary gain.

But why can't nelson talk about supplements at the protein factory? Sponsor or not, if you've used them and they help, you are hurting the members of this board by not speaking up.

For instance, I like allthewhey.com I've used their pure whey protein isolate and liked the fact that it mixes well, its odorless and tasteless for the most part. I have nothing to gain from that, I don't work for them or know them, I just share that information when people ask about protein powders. Is that wrong?

check out nelson's post on ZIP, sounds like PF is now a paying sponsor and we can listen to nelson's promotion of a product. Any critical thinker will take what a paid sponsor or affiliate says about a product with a grain of salt as it is unlikely that anything negative will be said and there is always the appearance of a confilict of interest. Having said that, there is certainly no reason to suspect that nelson is telling us anything but the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! :)

Frankly when someone promotes a product that is supposed to have specific physiologic effects, i like to see that claim backed up in some sort of rational scientific way, you know, like the fda requires of meds claiming some medicinal benefit! Since science and research are not nelson's long suite, he would not be my choice of an advocate but perhaps with this new affiliation with PF, his approach will change and we will see some solid scientific rationale for his claims. :)

The problems begin when a person constantly hypes the product. Take for instance the example of a person with several thousand posts, an established reputation, and at least a modicum of respect from a large minority of the board's patrons. Once that person starts hyping a product you basically end-up with a spokesperson giving the product or company free advertising and the product’s distributor no longer has an incentive to advertise.
