Can Anyone Else Not Get Enough Squats and Push Presses?

Seems like I have been drilling these movements hard lately!!

I will not go more than 96 hours without squatting.

I hit it all. . .heavy, box work, and speed. I think I will include some hypertrophy work (5 sets of 10 reps).

As for push presses, I performed 7 sets last night:D

I am focusing on technique and learning how to use speed drive. Quickness is improving. One other thing. . I am not locking out at the top. . I want the stress directed on the shoulder girdle and upper chest.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share this.

Never behind the neck for me.

funny how you mention this, im going every 3 days on legs for a couple weeks now that my upper body is shot...forearms more so

Its a good thing though, nothing like focusing on squats for a bit!

get the ol squat poundage up

You are a good man Jolly!:D

I squat a couple of times a week, but only back squat once. I mix in overhead squats, front squats ,zerchers and my most recent addition kneeling squats.

Whats going on? Everyone else preoccupied with the bench press?

yes. i have a meet coming up on the 23rd and things are getting down to the wire

i do squat once a week and will bump that up to twice a week westside-style until i'm ready to start another competition bench cycle

I used to squat often, till I effed up my back being a dumbass, doing a double from the floor deadlift without proper warmup.

I've got to the point where I have no pain throughout the day though, but I still haven't been testing it with any squats, deads, or powercleans.

I still love to push press though :)

Push presses sound really interesting to me and I am considering try them. I was also considering trying stand OHP, but push press sounds like it would build more power. Have you noticed any strenght gains yet? How is this exercise at building size? Also, do you think that they would work in a 5x5 routine?

i don't like squats anymore 'cause i have to clean/jerk/throw the weight on my back myself, no squat rack. combine this with the extreme temperatures here and it tires me out before i've even begun.

I squat 3 days/week, but it`s only for one workset. I`m getting a little psychologically burnt on them. It takes a lot for me to squat.

I've stopped squating again. When on a bulking cycle, they tend to expand my waistline. I use hack squats and leg presses to bulk mass in my thighs. I'll do heavy squats when cutting.

Squats and push presses are two excercises that Id do if I could only do two excercises. As far as behind the neck, its a bad idea to do any overhead lifts behind the neck, too much torque on the shoulders and it provides no real benefits. With the push press, it is also vital to stay straight and vertical through the whole movement. Also, the initial dip is fairly deep, about quarter-squat level deep.

I thought you mentioned that you thought your weak point was tris though? Wouldn't you want to hit those? My bad if I'm mis-remembering.

It is, but I am not using push presses for triceps. There are other exercises such as:

wide grip lockouts
close grip bench presses
lying french presses
JM presses

that I am using to correct this problem:) .

Rus,

I am starting out with lighter weights just to get the feel. . I am learning how to use leg drive and build speed.

I have noticed that my delts are looking a bit fuller.

As for building strength. . they are probably the best choice.

A 5 x 5 program is perfect for push presses. Right now, I am following:

5 x 10, then I will progress to 5 x 5, then 5 x 3

Backlash, LS is probably doing the right thing by not locking out at the top. The last couple inches of the movement take alot of stress off of the delts. He is forcing his delts to work much harder by not taking tension off of them at the end of each rep.

haha I can't imagine how sore that would make me. I never go above 5 reps in work sets (though I will when I do the smolov cycle this fall).

I love squatting. also love front squats, they feel really natural and they seem to simulate jumping more.

Push press weight is going up each week. . .

I am learning the drive and the extension. . .my collar bone area and front delts are taking a beating!!

yeah they will but the speed of the motion will start to increase drastically. felt good on the squats last night two more days untill some shoulders

i love the push press........... but louden......... if you want big weights........ learn to do the push jerk.......... you can use even more weight and explosion that way.

X

in front......... much more power and speed availible that way.

Sorry I'm late in posting to this Louden. :)

I'm in love with push presses. I look forward to doing them all week! I've made it up to a set of 5 with 110. This week, the 35's go on each side, woohoo! I end up with red marks all over my collarbones too!

Squats are more of a love/hate relationship. Right now, I'm loving them! It's helped so much that my form is better. The weights seem so much lighter. :D

I do snatch grip behind the neck push preses.

and only regular militray presses. I like to hold the lockout of the alst rep of each set for 5 to 10secs - nice core worker!!
