Wow, without knowing what kind of camping, or what kind of equipment you've got, or what kind of experience you've got ... whew.

The not obvious things you will always need: really good ziplock bags, extra change of shoes, toilet paper and a good hatchet.

good post jestro
what type of campig sc?
deep woods, car camping, state park wtf?

Thanks guys - sorry for limited info originally.

Going to a campground - Would rent the site to put up tent etc. Living in the city I really have NOTHING so I would need to buy some stuff. LOL

that's not camping, that's a wallless hotel, lol.

If you are bringing kids and wife, be prepared to have an excess of stuff you won't need and barely the room for it.

Just bring the basics - tent, sleeping bags (air matress), food, drinks, cooler, trash bags, matches, radio, flashlight/lantern, folding chairs, rain poncho, toiletpaper, 1st aid kit, towels, soap, bug repellent, and possibly some cards/board games to entertain.

One word: Walmart :lmao:

Okay, a LOT of the things you need camping are your regular stuff. If you're going to a campground, especially, you'll probably have a camp office that's got stuff too if you're missing things.

Actually what you need is good containers to carry stuff in more than specialty camping stuff (especially since you won't be backpacking it). There are big plastic containers like giant tupperware, definitely very useful.

What you definitely need to buy: tent, tarp, stove, sleeping accomodations (air bed/mattress, cot or sleeping bag. If you're going airbed or sleeping bag you want to think about an extra sleeping bag -- or an old down comforter or inexpensive feather bed, believe it or not -- the cold gets into you), unbreakable eating/drinking stuff, sturdy tables for work surfaces (don't assume there will be a picnic table), lights, cooler(s), chair. Most of everything else you need is stuff you already own: Cooking stuff and utensils, food storage, first aid kit (if you don't have a first aid kit make one up, that's a gimme in any house), clothing, rain gear (at least an umbrella), bathing stuff, LOTS of towels (you never have enough). And whatever entertainment stuff you need. If you're going to have an electric hookup (VERY handy) bring a microwave if you have a portable one, seriously. If you have bucketing rain, unless you have a separate canopy for your kitchen area you can't use your stove, but you can use a nuker in the tent.

Like any other hobby, I tell people to try to avoid making a big investment until you're sure this is what you want to get into.

I'm sure there's a ton of shit I'm forgetting, but it's a learning curve sort of thing. We all have different ways of doing it.

But you definitely need large waterproof containers, and one extra to put the tent in in case of rain it's pouring rain the day you take the tent down.

Jesus Jestro, you live in a camper down by the river or something?
I'm gonna give you a little secret, ctrl+C and ctrl+V

I wouldn't bring EVERYTHING on that list, but it gives you a good starting point for car camping. And I would ALWAYS make a list on paper and check off everything when you put it in your rig. You don't want to get out to the boonies and realize you forgot s'mores (the best thing about camping for kids) or beer (the best thing about camping for dudes).

If you a just planning on warm weather car camping, cheap $40 tents from walmart work just fine. You don't need a $400, 3lb tent!

me and a buddy plan on taking a deep woods weekend trip this fall where we only bring what we fit in our backpacks, but don't use it unless absolutely neccessary.

We will see if we can go the weekend (3 days) off of nothing....building a fire from scratch, bedding from scratch, catch food, etc. much like they do on the survivor shows.

That will be fun and interesting.

You did not get my classic Saturday Night Chris Farley reference.

Good list anyhow. I'm kinda anal about lists too. :)

Here is a good link for camping gear. If you dont have much, which is what it sounds like, you are going to spend some good amount of $$$$. I go at least once a year, I love it. And every year I still spend about $100-200 on things that I thought of that I would like/need/replace. If you're not going to do this often then get the "must haves" and that would be it. But if you want to do this often I would spend the $$$ and get some extra stuff. ---> The extra stuff is for conveinience and fun.

Rent an RV then you won't need to buy all that stuff except food :) Probably be cheaper if you have to make an investment into camping supplies.
Just stay at a motel, that'd be even cheaper. Drive through the woods, but DONT GET OUT OF YOUR CAR!

Sleeping bag..

Beeeeer.. alot.. enough that you can drink for about 20 hours a day over the next 3 or so.

ya.. that's about it beer should be enough to keep you going for a weekend.

Oh oh, bring hotdogs that's definately the easiest.

Looks like I'm all set for this soon to be crazy long weekend.. :p

ick motels are awful. Don't forget the smore makings, no reason to have a campfire without the marshmellows. Did someone already say that?

No kids - dont have to worry about that

What are some good things to make for food - To eat etc (Keeping in mind trying to stay somewhat on a healthy diet)

Im guessing Target is as good as Walmart for buying inexpensive stuff?

How about meals though? I guess I will bring a large cooler.

the possibilities are endless with a cooler to keep things cold. You can cook pretty much anything over a fire, especially with cookware.

Just prepare your food prior to camping.

Heck throw some marinated chicken on a skewer over the fire. Add some green peppers and onions on the stick too.

Dang, now I am hungry.
