Calves

Nelson any chance you could post up your calf routine? I cant make these bad boys grow how do you do it?

Anyone want to share their tips? I understand short rest periods between sets are the go as your calves are under stress all day.

I want cows too!

I just do calves when I have time after workouts. When I began calv training two legged calf raises on a step to near failure worked for me, then when I could to like 70 I added some weight but it was always 50+reps. That stopped though and I started doing seated machine calf raises 3 sets 12 reps, that worked ok, great pumps but now I do this:
Seated Calf Raise
90lbs x 10 reps (usually failure)
-rest 30 secs
80lbs x failure
-rest 90 secs
repeat.

I do that circuit a few times whenever I have time after workouts.

i do 1 set to failure with some extreme stretches at the end 2 times per wk. alternating with every lift my gyms have to offer. my calvs are keeping up with me.

Good find double bicept!!! To have big calves is a painful endeavor. I literally almost piss myself after every leg workout when i do calves. If you do not have the sensation of loss of bladder control your not trying hard enough. Calves are IMO the most painful muscle group to train.

train them 2 times a week on non-leg days.

one day i do 1 legged standing raises which has been shown to stimulate the most muscle fiber of all the machines and exercises.

day 2 i do seated raises 4 sets toes pointed out. then 4 sets donkey raises toes in.

reps and weight are up to you. i go for full contractions and holds on each rep.

You really have to hammer calves to make them grow. Think about this, do your calves usually hurt the day after you train them like alllllll your other body parts? 9 times out of 10 mine dont hurt one bit and are fine, unless you blast the shit out of them. They are tough stubborn muscles to get to grow.

Yep! That post is very similar to what i do except i do standing calf raises! I add a chain to my lifting belt slap on a 35lb plate and proceed to 100 reps,You will need to grab a pole to help stabilize you.
I am doing this once a week now, an as said if you're not sore in the next few days you didn't do them properly or you didn't use enough weight.

Wait until tomorrow... I did the seated raises and couldn't balance myself while standing.

Calves are one of the harder muscles to grow.
