there's a reason phone numbers are 7 digits....it's easier to remember. short term memory has the capacity for 7 chunks of information at once, +/- 2. telephone numbers are 7 digits because it makes it much easier to remember if you keep repeating it to yourself so it moves from short to long term memory.

i notice that your euro phone numbers are 9 digits. that's still within the range (if you include the +/- 2).

and i dunno why area codes in the US are 3 digit and totally screw the 7 +/-2 thing and make it 10, so don't ask me why, ask your phone company.
