Calibrating your TV

If this gets ANY views I`ll be shocked. here goes...

I just calibrated the video with AVIA home theater DVD. The picture looks a bit dark but that`s to be expected, I haver to get used to it for a week or so. btw I DON`T HAVE AN HD TV .

I also did the surround sound and was wondering what the point of reference is. Do I keep the volume at REFEerence (62) and adjust to 85 decibels each speaker?

Any pointers on this?

On our surround sound our back speakers are +10 and the front is -10.

Don't know if that will help at all.......

oops jenscat, The "arms" comment was`nt for you.

Actually every room is different and has to be calibrated seperately. The acoustics of a room varies a lot with different size, furnishings, shape, texture, carpet etc. You need an SPL sound pressure level meter for measuring/calibrating. You sit in the "sweet spot" where you will watch the movie/listen to music and set ALL the channels to the same decibel level, In this case 85 decibels at Ref (62).

The problem I`m having is what do you measure from? What reference point? 62=ref? or some other number?

I know it`s a long shot. but there are a few guys out here that can answer this.

The only way to get an exact calibration of the entire system is to use a Sencore VA63 waveform analyzer.
I have one,but it is for professional use cost $4200.00

Mine too. I never had a system before I bought a house. Now there`s no limit to the sound volume. SUB AND ALL!!! lol The house shakes.
