Cable Rear Pulldown vs. Cable Front Pulldown

lowerbackman

New member
Hey guys....

Looking at some weightlifters at my gym....

Every one starts at my gym with Cable Front Pulldown, and the "more advanced" are doign the Cable Rear Pulldown (LAT MACHINE).

After searching the internet about what exersizes trains which muscle... I found out they both do exactly the same, except... the front one is training some extra muscles (eg deltoid.).

Why don't the "advanced" trainers do the Front one too and hitting to flies at once?

What are your thoughts? Thanks!

From a ronnie coleman article...

Pulldowns in front enphasized the width of your upper lats and the muscularity of your middle back.

Behind the neck thickens the lower triangle of your traps, seperates your rhomboids, teres and spinatus muscles.

I can't understand why anyone would pull behind their neck. A more un-natural and dangerous exercises i cannot think of. Are you really going to get more out of that than chins or front pulldowns vs. the risk of injury

not really - face away from the machine and use a rope attachment

the only time I really ever use behind the neck pulldowns is at the end of my workout to get that last little burn in the middle of my back. I do it at the end of the workout so I won't be using any poundages that would be to heavy and at the end of an workout I really just focus on form and moving the weight...

you don't need to wedge the knees - the rope handle plus the fact that you are using mid-back versus lats - the weights used are greatly reduced - 150 is as high as I go when doing them
