Bye Bye Backsquat its been fun!!

Whats up long time lurker here few years or so, but im saying good bye to the backsquat. I played division 1 ball and had a few shots in the nfl my career is now over and im saying good bye to the squat. In college we squated 2 times a week one real heavy and one not so heavy, . Im 6'5 in college highest weight was 310, 5 months removed from last NFL camp i am now 280 lol and not even dieting. The 2 years i spent with a particular nfl team they didnt even squat unless you wanted to, and maybe 4 guys did, i wont name the team. So for the last 2 years i squatted off and on and now im done, when you take those long breaks the hurt and pain of starting a squat routine back up is too much. I do notice the mass i am losing from my legs but the knee joint pain and back pain i have at times, tells me its not worth it. I had tendinitis pretty bad when i was last squatting seriously.

Question is has anyone else just given them up?/ i fear the chicken legs but i always had small calves, hell many of the nfl lineman have skinny legs check them out some time, but never juiced here and dont plan on it, i am now trying to lead my life of not being an athlete and it is hard, hard to workout with no athletic goal but im starting to get back into it, peace and i enjoy the board.

For those who dont know yes squats in athletics are importan , but lifting does not make the athlete. U still need to have skills on the field, and thats the bottom line.

peace out and save the flames !!

If you have to quit because you have bad knees, then you have to quit. It's that simple in my opinion. To say that you are quiting them though because "the hurt and pain of starting a squat routine back up is too much", as you said, is kind of pussying out. I mean, from a guy who supposedly could take the beatings one would get in the NFL, that is kind of a strange reason.

Knee pain and back pain? With regards to back pain, you could do front squats. For knee pain, what kind of pain is it? Could it be a muscle imbalance? Most football player's I've seen are barely above half squat instead of doing full squats.

Anyway, you could do variations of deadlifts, lunges, and step-ups and be just fine.

must of been the red skins...HAHA!

j/k... some guys dont squat for medical reasons & such, but they still do leg press, extensions, sldls, curls...etc. Unless your totally giving up lower body workout- theres alot of alt. exercises.
