I would order from tiger direct and have it trucked to your house. Much better deal than going to local electronics store

I already have two sonys too
nothing wrong with either except my LR is a 36 inch tube vega W/no hi def
just got Fiber optics installed throughout the house with all HD/DVR boxes
My MANTOWN is a sony HD, but with a 6 month old now, the only time I'm down there is to puff a few hits of tweeds
spending all my time with her upstairs
THEREFORE I NEED MY HD!

Thanks for the help bro

Last year I got a Sony BRAVIA 46" 1080p LCD for my basement. We sit about 10 feet from the TV and its a perfect picture.

Just make sure it has about 2-3 (or more) HDMI connections, you'll want one for HDTV (cable, dish, or FiOS) and another for BluRay, and one for gaming/PC use. RIght now I'm using one for cable and one for BluRay/PS3, once individual BluRay players come down in price I will get one to take up the 3rd HDMI.

In my upstairs room I have a 52" Mitsubishi Diamond Series DLP which I usually watch for sporting events. LCD's tend to get some motion blur and I'm anal about that stuff. They do have some 1080p plasma TV's our right now but you will pay for them I'm sure. Panasonic and Pioneer are usually on top with that stuff.

Here is my basement TV:

My upstairs TV:

I actually have the 52825 which is basically the same tv but the diamond series has a few extras and cosmetically looks better

I've always been a fan of Sony, Panasonic, and Mitsubishi, if I had to pick one to get today as opposed to a year and a half ago or 3 years ago it would be this one:

When you walk into a store like Best Buy, Circuit City, Tweeter, whatever, you need to be aware of a few things.

- the signal going to the TV"s is never a direct feed, meaning its split several times in order to have all their TV's showing the same picture at the same time. The signal is not very clean when its split like that.

- because of the lighting in the stores, the floor models are usually not setup for optimal picture quality. they usually have the contrast all the way up, brightness is up much higher than it should be, things like that. Until you calibrated it at home with a disc like AVIA II or Digital Video Essentials, it will not look its best. The bluray version of AVIA II should be out soon.

- sales reps should be willing to help you make a fair comparison. Try to look at the tv you want to get through a direct source feed like DVD or BlueRay. If the one you are looking at isn't set up with a direct feed see if they would be willing to hook up a player too it so you can better judge the picture quality. Also see if you can get them to make adjustments to the contrast/brightness/sharpness/color so you can see something other than the out of box setting or the maxed out settings they usually have on the showroom floor

how do I calibrate it with a disc?
Sounds like a great idea
do you have to hook up a laptop to the tv?

fuck sony...ive had to replace the optical drive and the lamp in mine and its 3 years old....i like Pioneer or Samsung

nope, you either get the DVD version or BluRay version and put it in the player. Each chapter has kind of a how too guide on picture/sound quality, home theater setup etc.

Also there are different chapters of pure test patterns to make calibrations using the contrast, brightness, sharpness, color calibration etc. First they do a walk through and tell you what to look for, then they display the test pattern and allow for you to make adjustments.

Avia is a great disc and once calibrated for proper black level, color, sharpness, the tv looks 100 times better

If you are only using DVD right now get the AVIA DVD, it will make it look much better once setup correctly. One thing to note, if you get a top end TV almost always the calibrations do NOT carry over from input to input meaning you can calibrate your DVD through the component video input, but if you switch to HDMI for cable the contrast/brightness and color levels are not what you just set them too, so you will either have to eyeball the settings from what you have on the component input or ...well that's usually your only option unless you have a blueray player or PS3 that has both component and HDMI and you can switch the player to the other input channel.

If what I said doesn't make sense let me know and I will try to clarify

Sony is overrated lots of better tvs for home theatre

panasonic is much better, much cheaper, has the bigger market share, has the newer technology

LG is pretty good in terms of price and technology also.....

Both are top if you're considering plasmas...

here's a tip.. only 2 or 3 companies make LCD screens and sell them to sony, vizio, lg, toshiba, etc... they just put a different cover on them but basically the same thing just paying for the names

while that is true the screen usually just impacts the black levels, the other processing components are where they differ, but you are correct

which did you get?

I got The top of the line Sony 42"
Bravia XBR surrond sound
4 HDMI inputs
I'm on Verizon FIOS for television
HD on it is SIIIIICK
It's also got some super motion hardware, so when you watch blue ray the effects and motions are insane

I find myself watching the Food network HD alot

and to LOL @ all the haterz who said SONY is overrated
yeah, if your comparing a 42" basic SONY LCD for around $1400 vs a Samsung or Vizio LCD for around $900-$1000 I can see your point

But to compare Sonys top of the line to that wal-mart cattle trazsh is teh stupid

you need a pretty big room to house a 46" or bigger. I got a 46" room in the biggest room in my house and it is plenty big.. some of these guys with little dicks like to get 50"+ and it gives you a massive headache watching it b/c they don't understand how size does matter but bigger is not always better..

im pretty sure i have a 50 inch. it does not give me a headache. i giggle when i see a 65 inch tv though. lol

its up on the wall though so it needs to be big because the room is pretty big.

vaulted tall ceilings

what brand did you just buy?

Go to best buy, and USE YOUR EYES to figure out which one has the nicest picture quality.

It's really that easy. Then look at size, hdmi inputs, warranty, price, asthetics and other things to narrow down the choice to 1.
