Busted At Border

kurtis250

New member
I've been busted at the us border crossing from tijuana into the us, with about $1100(purchase price in mexico) worth of gear. it was me and a friend, driving across. when we got to customs, they immediately ordered us to pull over for a routine inspection. the only question that kept being asked was "do you guys have any steroids?" of course we answered "no" all three times and they made us exit the van so they could search it. we had the juice stashed behind the dash, in what we though was a pretty secure area. of course, they did find it, and proceeded to strip search us and found 1000 pills of clenbuterol in each of our jock straps. me and my friend are built pretty decent, but i didn't think either of our appearances screamed out "juiceheads".
to make a long story short, i took the heat for all of the juice, because i was driving(even though 3/4's of it was purchased by my friend) he got charged $1400. i got charged $73,000!!!!!!! neither one of us got jail time or arrested, but i think a month in jail might have been prefferred. both of us had clean records, with no arrests ever. HOW CAN I GET MY FINE REDUCED???? ANYBODY EVER HAD THIS HAPPEN????? I'm 24 years old, i'll never pay this off for as long as i live. please don't respond with any comments referring to what a dumbass i am, i already know that. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

holy fuck!!!!!! i sorry to hear that but i cant help but holy fuck!!!! this is why i rather do business with a domestic and let them do the work........you would have saved some $$$$$$$$ wel 73,000$$$$$worth.......again sorry to hear that but holy fuck!!!!!!!!!!

Ouch $73,000!! Sorry to hear that bro.

I wouldn't be suprised if the border knew you were comming and had a description of your van. Becareful of who you trust.

As for lowing the fine. I think it is possible but not without losing money on a lawyer. Then again I know nothing of this area so I'll shut up.

Good luck

Do a search there is an attorney here in Southern California who specializes in steroids and the law, I have seen post about him before.

There is also a website regarding steroids and the law and it may be sponsored by his law firm.

Wish I could be more specific.

I think they charged you $73,000 to scare you that would never hold up in court, the normal charge is approximately 5 times the value of the gear or $5500 plus legal fees. I am assuming you were stopped by the US customs not by Mexican police. If that were the case and you are home, you could forget the whole nightmare.

That's what I would guess. Maybe this post will put a rest to those who assume going to Mexico is less of a risk than ordering domestic or international.

i was busted by US CUSTOMS and not mexican police, and "yes" i am at home now, in pennsylvania. i was vacationing.....some vacation. as i stated, i did NOT get arrested, just fined. i wish i did get arrested, if it meant that i fine would not be applyed. by the way, we parked the van and walked to the vets and pharmacies, to avoid them seeing our white van.

thats funny.........i got busted in tj border 2 months ago........but i spent about $2700 and only got fined $12,000
so either you are lying your ass off or i got very lucky

I've known several mules who have been popped. I've never heard of anybody getting a $73,000 fine.

A main TJ runner got arrested with $60,000 worth of juice (wholesale price) in his car. He got 2 months in jail and his car siezed... no fine.

If they really think you are going to be able to pay that, just write them a check and date it January 1st of the year 2100.

Whoo boy....

Well, one option might be bankruptcy. I think fines are covered by it.

From what I've seen, if you do border crossings keep in mind the following....

1. You have almost no rights even on the US side. If they want to strip the vehicle to nuts and bolts, they'll do it, and you can't do jack about it. You can't hide them good enough to prevent them being found.

2. The US photos all vehicles and tags crossing the border. DUH! If you go over too often in a short time, it flags you. CA residents might have less trouble, but common strategy is to use different vehicles on different trips.

3. Odds are the supplier narced you out--certainly someone did. They were too specific on what they asked. For what you had, you should have gone to jail. They seemed to know too much. Genrerally, they don't ask too many questions when you go there and back.

Holy shit $73,000!!!!!!!
Do they really expect you to pay that?
Just get a good attorney specialized in these kind of cases like solidspine mentioned.
You should be able to reduce that fine to a much lesser amount.

Hopefully;)

If the Mexican government fined him this amount, does he even have to pay it? What would they do if he didn't?

But that is a heap of change bro.

to all who are doubting the $73,000 fine....IT IS NO JOKE. i need advice here, not people doubting my story. i have no reason to post false info. i suppose i should call a lawyer before arranging payment plans. www.steroidlaw.com seems like the right place to call.
BIG PIMP: give me some details on your bust. how did you arrange payment. did you get a lawyer???

Bro, the one option you always have when you get a fine is to go before a judge and plead POOR. Ask for a community service sentence in lieu of your fine. The judge can throw out the fine and give you only community service hours.

always walk and never buy more than you can carry safely at one time

if you got over a grand mex price vs 150/200 mex price the "customs will pay me for this bust" syndrome is less

hypothetically ive carried 10 10ml vials and one 50ml vial

in my baggy shorts at one time

ive told this story before one of the 10ml vials popped out of my briefs and i caught it and transferred it to a pocket while i was talkin to customs...
made it look like a crotch scratch and a reach for id... when he said "i dont need to see your id." and i walked

luckly it was a hot day so the sweat that was dripping of my nose and eyebrows seemed only a little too much

i would have been sweating the same amount if it had been 20 below

oh yeah they can search your car anytime they want but they better have a good god damn reason to grab your dick

payment arrangement my ass........i would be paying it off for the next 20 years
when i went to court, i had no lawyer just myself
i told them i didnt want to pay monthly so the judge gave me the option to pay half right then so i pulled out my check book and wrote a 6 thousand dollar check
it really sucked ass too....so about a total of about 9 grand out of pocket for nothing.........fuck mexico

Is that Pecos or dollars, cause if its Pecos then it only like $1.99 american. Sorry I could't resist.

All I can think of is my friend who dreamed he brought $50,000 over a few years back. I'm glad it was only a dream with a happy ending.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA. Now seriously, what happens if he doesn't pay the fine? Supposing he owes the mexican government.

And I think you can ask for community service in lieu of a fine. Once you get to court it will be reduced however. Guy I know had 20,000 valium tablets 10,000 Hydrocodone tablets and he was stopped and busted by NYPD. After going to court he was sentenced with a $850 fine and 200 hours of community service.

I don't owe the mexican govt. I owe the US govt., that's why it's called US customs. i've considered all of your options. it seems that everybody and their brother thinks $73,000 is ludacris. i can plead poor, and do the community service, but if i do that, i might as well quit my job and work full-time for the US govt. for free. do you know long it'll take to work off $73,000? bankrupcy is an option, but i'm 24, and so far my credit is golden. if bankruptcy is declaired, i'll never buy a house,a car, or anything for that matter. if i go on payment plan and pay a certain amount monthly, i wonder what is the lowest amount to pay possible? do i have to prove my income and expenses? i'm not sure how this works. i did call rick collins from steroidlaw.com. no word from him yet. keep the ideas coming, please.

Not really....

Bankrupty CAN'T hurt you that bad. Times have changed, and lots of people are going backrupt. It does go on your credit record. The next 7 years are tougher to get credit, but in 7 years, it must come off the record, and it isn't ever held against you again.

Also, from day #1 after you get relief, you can start rebuilding credit, so you might be not-so-bad-off before the 7 years are up.

Bro, in community service, you don't have to work off the amount of money you are fined. You just do a set number of hours.

Just go to court, it will not be that bad. Trust me. The judge will lower your fine. If not, then people would just be back out doing illegal things to make the money to pay them.

It's going to be ok. Just make sure you follow the probation guidelines so your record will be sealed and not publically available.

You are partially correct. There are virtually no consequenses for filing BK. You can purchase a home, a car and begin receiving credit cards 1 day out of a chapter 7. You can have it removed from your report after 7 years. The reason people did not file in the past was mainly due to the stigma attached to BK. Now people don't give a shit what others think and are more apt to do what ever it takes to get ahead.

Why not go over the border next time and send the shit back to yourself. Even if the package were to get seized you can deny any knowledge about it. You have no control over who sends you a package.

hope this helps

Call Merle Schneidewind in San Diego.. The top criminal defense attorney in town, plus he hates the border stops and the police. Also I heard he represents the Mexican Mob so the feds will have to have there shit together once he is on the case, if he takes it.

GOOD LUCK

dont look like im going anywhere for gear except domestic. the prices may be higher but it beats paying fines like 70,000$. sucka

i did not get arrested or fined. they never cuffed me, read me my rights or anything. i did get a fine for $73,000 set by US customs. they made me sign a promisary note to the us dept. of treasury. i have no idea how they arrived at that price. this dickhead, sgt. rodriguez set it. he said that if i don't arrange for payment in 30 days, the US dept. of Treasury will put a lean on my wages, and take my social security. i have no court appearence to attend, or anything. it's fucked up, i can't understand how they can do this? they said i got off lucky by not getting arrested......how so?

LOL tell them they can keep your social security. It's not like you'll ever see that money anyway.

anybody know any good lawyers in the san diego area??? prefferably lawyers that have handled customs cases(smuggling goods over the border). any advice/help will be appreciated. i still haven't found anyone who knows the customs laws very good.

sofa is correct. You need to call up the attourney general's office and talk to whowever is assigned to the case. In addition you can call the federal public defender's office in san Diego. They will also help you out.

Just wanted to let everyone know that i got a letter from customs yesterday. All i did was write a letter requesting my fine to be reconsidered to a reasonable amount and they changed it from $73,000 to $5,900! then they said that it would be further mitigated to only $600!!!! $300 i already paid as a gesture of goodwill when i sent the letter, so i'm responsible for only $300 more. it was the best day of my life!!!! thanks everybody for the helpful ideas and feedback. now i can concentrate on lifting again.

Open up an engine compartment or headlight assembly. And stash 'em in there.

C'mon folks, if you're gonna do illegal drug smuggling -- do it professionally!

or do what terrorists do -- smuggle 'em on ships. No one checks cargo ships.

-= nav =-

Smuggle 'em on ships? I dont think anyone here has access to a cargo ship just sitting around bud.

same happened to me about a year ago. i had 1000 tj value on me. they told me that the law is either 10 times u.s street value or 5000 dollars. they gave me the smaller of the two. i assume they fined you the 10 times street value. there is also a stipulation that if you agree to pay the fine off in 30 days you only have to pay 10% of the fine which of course i opted for. you should look into that because all in all i only had to pay 500 and that was like a slap on the wrist to me.

bro, i think they ment to put $7,300 on the customs paper. there is know whey that you can get a $73,000 fine for the amount that you had. they let murders out on bale for less than $73,000.

I've been reading this post, and i've been feeling bad. But it's all good now, and i'm pretty happy for you. U were lucky, i guess. Be careful with how you deal.

Glad to here you got your fine reduced. Mexicans are poor and will do anything for money. Somebody ratted you out for money. It wouldn't matter where you hid your goods, they would have kept dissasembling untill they found it. If they want to, they will strip search you. Hiding it in your underwear won't help you. I wouldn't drive your vehicle to the pharmacia, I'd walk there. Either the clerk ratted you out, or somebody saw you from the street. Make sure nobody gets a good look at you or what you bought.

It's better to let someone else assume all the risk, get a mule.

wow i can't believe they opened up your dash! I'm searching for the perfect hiding spot but god I've heard of some crazy shit goin down. Anyone else have horror stories of their cars being torn apart?

THIS IS WHAT HAPPEN TO YOU,...YOU PROBABLY GOT FOLLOWED BY A PHARMACIST-CLERK,...WHAT I WOULD DO IS GET A MEX-MULE THEY CHARGE 200.00 AS MANY TRIPS THAT IT TAKES TO CROSS.MY SUGGESTION IS HIRE A LAWYER AND DONT ORDER THRU COMP-...YOUR GOIN TO BE UNDER SURVEILLANCE FOR A WHILE. :fro:
