In a recent thread on shaving, someone recommended *Visine* as a way of controlling razor bumps, ingrown hairs, and zits.
A more cost effective way is to use Tend Skin, which you can buy in stores or over the net.
But if you're a REAL tightwad like me, you make your own! The active ingredient in Tend Skin is salicylic acid -- aspirin!
Here's my personal copyrighted recipe for Ercole's NoBumpz. Hope it works as well for you as it has for me:
Dissolve 20 aspirins in 1 cup of the following liquid:
2 parts rubbing alcohol
2 parts Propylene Glycol (non-toxic thickener available OTC at any pharmacy)
1 splash glycerin (OTC at any pharmacy)
1 part water
It takes hours for the aspirins to dissolve fully. Just slosh them around in the bottle every so often, until they're dissolved. It's easiest to leave them overnight.
Every so often you'll have to shake the bottle before using, since the aspirin starts to precipitate out when it's left to stand for a long time.
Wash the affected area with soap and hot water. Then apply a thin layer of NoBumpz. Do this once to three times daily -- whatever's necessary to control your problem.
