Buffalo meat....

I picked some buffalo burgers up at a Trader Joe's yesterday. I noticed the protein content is quite high (24g per patty) and the fat is about 5 times lower than that of regular chuck beef. I have yet to try them, but tonight I am going to make them for dinner. If they are tasty, I think I will make them a staple in my diet during my next bulk cycle. Anyone else eat these before?

yeah, i've had them...they're awesome.

i've been meaning to pick some up from trader joe's myself. they are just a bit more expensive than buying beef, so i haven't gotten around to it yet...let me know how they are.

Grass-fed bison is great for bulking. Its high in protien, and omega 3's (so is grass-fed beef). Is the fat on yours yellow or white?

It says they are free-range buffalo, so I'm assuming they are grass-fed. Trader Joe's usually only has organic and free-range items anyhow. The fat looked white uncooked. I ate them tonight, and I think they're waaaaaaay better than beef. I've found my new bulking food! yum yum :D

hey

i am a chef and i deal with game alot

if they are farm raised, they are formula fed
meaning at times they eat grass
in the summer they eat hay
and before slaughter fed grain to sweeten the meat

free range means nothing when these days
just a large pen
same for chicken

they invested alot of money into these animals
and hope to reap alot of money in return
they would not risk harm coming to their animals
so it is all pretty much monitored and kept under control

bison is a great meat high in protien and low in fat
so is ostrich
i love boar my self and venison

don't be deceived by labeling and marketing

you'll pay extra for it

Quite true, labeling is very deceiving with meat production these days. How does venison taste by the way? they had that there also

venison is great. probably my favorite meat. if only i could get it year round. i have yet to try bison but as soon as i can find a place that sells it nearby i'm gonna pick some up.

venison is much better than regular beeh

Too bad it is sooooo expensive (most ,of the times) :(

First, I never liked the taste of Buffalo meat, it just tastes funny to me, just a personal problem I guess.

Second, if the meat is from Wild Buffalo, I am highly against buying it because it is usually obtained by destroying a highly endangered species. However, this would the the most optimal meat as far as nutritional values.

Thrid, if they are pen grown, as ob said, they are not fed the same so the nutrients are NOT what they claim they are.

Lastly, EFAs are in all animal fat, but after the extreme heating that is needed to cook animal meat, the EFAs, for the most part, are gone. So don't expect too much of it either way.

Same thing with salmon

Mr. X, regarding your comment about the meat losing the EFA's after cooking, are you saying that if I were to eat it raw I could ditch my flax oil? That might be worth it for me.

and why do you buy cold pressed efa's?

Even though in theory that would be possible, I don't want to even elaborate for the fear that someone will actually eat the raw meat and suffer from it.
