Bruises from wrist straps?

Seashell

El Kabong
Platinum
Anyone else get them? I only use them for SLDL's, I don't know if I'm wrapping them too tight or what..

And I don't bruise easily at all.

What's hot is after a few days, the faded bruises just look like dirt. Nice.

never had that problem. I use straps to shrug at 585 at I dont have any problems yet but I dont wrap them that tight.

i use the white ropey cloth type. just got back from the gym after doing heavy sldls today and i already have the redness developing which usually lasts overnight. it's mainly on the inside portion of the wrist although i've never bruised from it. you just bruise easily maybe?

I use APT pro wrist straps....my old ones would give me bruises and were kind of annoying but strong nonetheless...

APTs have padding in them and they are huge for wrist straps...also the material they are made out of doesn't dig into the skin...

They are worth the investment, best straps I've ever used

Thanks for the replies.. maybe I'll look into the padded ones.. I always have red wrists the whole day afterwards, but it's the bruises that bug me.. I feel like ppl think I'm doing freaky stuff with handcuffs or something.. lol..

Oh, and SSME..

I use black cloth straps. Theyre always real tight. Leaves red marks on my wrists that can last a few days. No black and blue though. Probabally wont do too much permanent damage in your case. They last the longest when I exceed 700lbs on the beast lifts off the rack.

ironmind do some nice ones, but if I was giving you training advice, I would say introduce static holds into your routine......develop a grip of iron and never use them again

I get them all the time from straps. Red lines, slight bruises. Never looked like dirt though.....People always just ask me..." Are you alright?!" ..."What happened?!" thinking whatever,....I laugh..... Now at times it does get irrating (the slight pain sometimes/burn) so I went to Sports Authority and got myself a pair of white wristbands. Also, when you wash your wraps, make sure you use fabric softener. if you don't they get hard as Fuk@! Like burlap. Ouch.

i havent the foggiest idea how to even use those things.

Maybe you have awesome grip strength and don't need to. My grip sucks.

Do you ever find the bar wants to slip out from your fingers? Even with reverse grip I was struggling to keep my hands closed, it kept ending up that I was holding on by just my fingertips.. Anyway, you might want to try them, I lift significantly more weight for SLDL's with the grips. And they're really cheap too. I asked the guy at the counter where I bought them to show me how to use them, he did a little demo for me on a bar. :)

i dont know how much weight youre using, but i guess either A) i have a strong grip or B) Im not using that much weight. I find I dont have much of a problem keeping my grip solid for the entire set. Then again Im only using like 115 for sets of 12.

I do 165, 4 sets of 8. You seem a lot stronger than me, so I'd love to see what you could do with straps. :) That said, there's arguements against them as well..

Schiek has those gloves with a built in strap. Instead of creating pressure on the wrist, it distributes the pressure to your hands.

Can't find the link but I'll post it when I find it.

I haven't used the wrist wraps before because I never saw a need for them. It sounds funny, but I just got used to lifting without gloves or straps so if I don't feel the bar dig into my palms then I think that something is wrong.

They look interesting though and will probably give them a try...

I don't wear straps unless it is allowed in an event at a contest.

I do have some straps from www.prowriststraps.com and they ARE the BEST!!!

Email Alan there, tell him that Clint Darden sent you. He will give you some advice on which straps are best for you. There is a good chance that if you email him and say that I sent you...he just might give you a REALLY nice discount...for a few more days at least.
