Brand New Start due to EF!!

Hello everyone. After a lot of thought, reading the forums of EF, asking your opinion etc i have decided to throw away my current training program, clear my mind and begin the favorite 5x5 trianing program that i have printet-Bill Starr, Madcow.

I have being dieting till now since is summer at my country and going to the beach is a must every weekend. I decided not to care how my abs look :) so even though is very hot i will start the 5x5 intermidiate program now and i will also increase my calories intake for strength.

I am 32yo, 5.9",180 pounds and approx 17% bodyfat. So, this is it guys. Its Friday today i will start fresh from Monday the new program and nutrition plan so i will keep you informed.

Do you know your 5 rep maxes for each lift yet?

remember to start conservatively.
 
Hello everyone. Back, its being 3 weeks now i started the new program the favorite and famous 5x5. I started conservatively to be honest beacuse i want to start strong full throttle in September till January. So july will be to experiment with the program.

I can say though that is very good!!!!!!!!!!!! i feel my legs aching from 3xweek squat, 2xbench and barbell row its awesome. Honestly i am getting excited when the time comes to hit the gym. I eat also a lot in order to cope with the intensity of the program so bye bye abs for now. and guess what. The owner of the gym, asked me if he can join me in this program beacuse he was looking strange at me and after 2 weeks when 2 guys asked him for constructing a training program for them HE GAVE THEM THE BILL STARR 5x5 :) WE WIN BROTHERS!!!! :)

Good to hear you are sticking with it and you are spreading the info on to others.

So, started out the program. I have to agree that at first you feel strange beacuse you think you dont do much anyway we will see how it goes.

Squat 80kgx5 Max

Deadlift 120kgx5 Max

Barbell Row 65x5 Max

Bench 85kgx5

This is for now. I will keep posted for the progress
 
Hello everyone again. I didnt post the progress using the program but i keep following it all the time. I am at week 5, i am having 1 week off now due to family summer vacations and i will return on the 16th of August continuing it. I am progressing a lot on my strength and i am very pleased.

My question is, i am planning to continue with the program for another 7 weeks to complete a 12 week cycle lets say. What do you reccomend to do next? A full body workout? a traditional split like chest/bi, back/tri etc? I am in the period of bulking even though its summer i dont care and i will continue till January lets say so I EAT A LOT!!! and also i am natural, i dont plan to do any cycle.

Any opinions appreciated and any training program reccomendations. Thanks a lot
 
Hah I was hoping by cycle you meant 5x5 cycle, then I read near the bottom where you say you're natural.

Why would you just end it after 7 more weeks? What if you can keep progressing? You're just going to stop there? Keep going until you hit a wall. I mean where there is no possible way for you to progress anymore..at least a week to a few weeks of no progress. After that, take a deload week if you need one.

What should you do after the 5x5? Have you read everything that madcow2 wrote on his geocities thing? Go back to your routine, go to the Table of contents and read EVERYTHING. It's very beneficial to you.

Basically, whatever routine you do, make sure you have compound exercises, and that you have a type of progression...whether it be in reps or weight. I suggest that once you complete your 5x5, do it again with your new maxes. Maybe try http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/weight-training-weight-lifting/5-3-1-program-647742.html. There's a lot of options, just make sure you take what you learned from the 5x5....compound exercises and progression.
