box squat's

hey people
Im currantly following a routine where im having some peoblms with the exercise's. I dont like them at all hahaha, Im just wondering if there are any alternatives to box squats? i was thinking instead of the box being there maybe use the safety bar on the squat rack? have it set so at the bottom of the lift the bars just resting on it. Also close grip and reverse grip bench absolutely kill my wrist's, after doing reverse grip bench the other week my wrist's were severly hurting so i changed to close grip and no change, what could i subsitute these for? i work in a labour intensive job thats hard enough on my wrist's as it is so i dont want to really damage them by doing those exercise's. any help would be greatly appreciated

rack squats unload you at the bottom, so it's a different lift.

try just pausing for a second in the hole if you can't do boxes for whatever reason

it might be that im just being lazy, it just feels really uncomfortable, i might just tough it out cause my training partner says that they are really good for increasing weight on your squat

cheers for the advice bor's... box squat craziness? i must be outta the loop

Powerlifters have done box squats for ages, long before Louis Simmons got "famous", but for some reason in the past 10 years it's really been in the headlines and seems like it's new "must" thing to do. I personally think it's overrated exercise.

True, but following this sport so long, it annoys me that newbie lifters are concentrating too much on these "trendy" exercises, and less to the basic stuff.

i'm no newbie to the sport, and I do feel as though box squatting has a great carry over to my suited lift. i dont, however, feel as though there is a great carry over to someone who is not going to lift with a squat suit on. but it is still a good tool for people to learn form.

Advanced lifters are one thing, but newbies who have been training PL for only year or two don't need any box squats. IMO

pausing should serve about the same purpose as box squats. When doing box squats make sure you do not set on the box. meaning do not relax. you should just touch and go back up. relaxing the muscles and then standing back up is a BiG NO NO...

When any exercise is uncomfortable use less weight. work on form..
