Box squats

i like them both.

IMHO if you want to get good at a lift you need to do the lift, not the modified version. Sure i do box squats but i wouldnt constantly go max on the box, considering the beaten your back is taken.

I would use box squats as a tool with squats.

One day would be light day (dynamic) either squat or box squat
Another day that week is max effort day and choose which lift you didnt choose for light day.

this is my opinion. could be wrong, but its working for me....

i have recently changed my routine up a bit....

but before i did, i was squatting 3x week. No other squat movements and my squat went through the roof.
