Bottom-position GM's...Height?

JOKER47

Elite Mentor
Is there a specific height that bottom-position GM's should be done from? I have seen 40" and 36" listed before.

Does it depend on the height of the person?
Do you target starting from whatever height is parallel for you?
Have I answered my own question here?:D

Thanks all,
Joker

i think B and a couple other guys did them low from 36". i'm not exactly sure on that but i think that's right.

i dont know why. i'd think it'd be dangerous starting at an unnaturally low position

Yeah, B-Fold and Crimson King both do them from 36", I believe. I measured where I was doing them from last week, and got around 42-43". (Doing them off the safety bars of my cage.) I just started them a couple weeks ago, so they still feel a little strange.

Just wondering if there is a height I should start from right off the bat.

I go about as far as i do on SLD, and sometimes maybe 2/3 that distance, sorry I dont know the exact height

I do mine from 40". I am 6'2" and I still can't see much of a reason to go much deeper. The bar is not far above my hip bones at that height...and it is DEEP!!!! Just ask brian747478', Zach, and anyone else who did them here last weekend.

Sorry to mis-quote you on the 36". :)

So, are you suggesting that the starting point should not go below your hips?

Thanks,
Joker

Personally I rotate 36" Chain Suspended, 40", 44", and Free Standing Arched Back.. On the 36" I add 2 sets of minis double choked. At that height the bands are still lose at the bottom but really kick in up around the 44" mark..

That is where it feels more like a power exercise to me... Anything lower and it feels like it is either erectors or hamstrings. I feel that I can effectively and efficeintly hit both with 40".

40" was pretty deep, at least for me. I'm 6'1"-6'2", and 40" was deep enough. Even the shorter guys were using that depth and it looked about right.

Thanks for the help, guys. I did these yesterday from 40". I think I will most likely end up staying at that height. (BTW, I'm 5'9". Quite a bit shorter than you guys.)

This was only my third time doing these, and I am still getting the "feel" for them.

Thanks again,
Joker

Weight? How do they feel? Where are you feeling them? Chain suspended?

I did these this week with 235lbs. Felt pretty easy, but maybe a bit akward. I am planning to up the weight each week as I get more comfortable with the lift itself.

I seem to feel it mostly all over my back. If I had to pick one specific area that seems to feel it the most, it would have to be the middle of my back. About 2-4 inches up from my lower lumbars.

I am doing them off the safety bars of my power cage. I measured it this week, and the setting I had them at was right at 40".

Chains will feel so much better and more natural on your body... You should invest in some.

Ask the As(s)ylum crew about doing theirs from 36"...and I believe that Hannibal is 6'3".

Well I'm 6ft and I can tell you that 36" is very awkward feeling.. But I stiil feel i benefit from these in my rotation.... And I add some heavy band tension to kick in about half way up to I have to strain all the way....

WoW...any difference in weight that can be used? Is it a lot? Is your stance different?
