Boston/ New England peeps...

I may be transferring there, and am curious about a few things. What does it cost to live there? Basic shit, because I'll be taking a pay cut initially and need to know what to expect. Is it decent out there? Fun? Shit for a mick that quit drinking to do? Is the golf decent? I'm excited at the thought of leaving Utah, but it's a big fuggin move if I do it.

Really depends on where you are looking. The cost of living here is not that cheap, esp in the city. Where is your job going to be located?

Much more expensive than Utah, I'll tell you that much. But your quality of life will go up significantly. Will you be in the city or the outskirts? It's always cheaper if you can live outside of downtown.

I personally don't like Boston, but it is a fun city with a lot of things to do. There are a lot of golf courses in the area and a ton more in RI (some great ones near the water). Good to hear things may be getting better for you, you miserable rotting piece of lard.

This all came to me yesterday afternoon, so I don't have exact details yet. I could be working in Dartmouth. Not the school, just the town. I was in Boston once when I was a kid. If tha1t town is anything like Princeton, I won't be buying for a while. Renting a house or duplex could be what? $2-3K/ mo? Is that about right? And what about the golf?

I dont find it that bad here.
Depends on where your work will be located and if you are willing to travel some.

Someone I know out there was saying I should look into RI. As far as city vs. suburbs, I think I need to wait and see how work goes. I don't want to fuck around and get a lot of house based on my first few months' guarantee and have it fizzle. No need to be house poor. I'm kind of excited though. Utah has been nice, but I miss..... culture.

Dartmouth is expensive but there's amazing golf on the Cape. You're almost directly on Buzzard's Bay.

You'll love the ocean

Taking a pay cut to move to a much higher cost-of-living area is going to hurt.

I've been here all my life - and if you can get used being taxed for everything you "touch", ....you'll be fine.

Just got my "excise tax" - that's a tax just because you own a vehicle. Every year when I get it, I want to strangle someone.

Lol@ what can a Mick do here...more Irish here than in Ireland! I think there is over 100 Irish Pubs on like one street...lots of hot college girls, college population is in the 100s of thousands...but you will pay, but who cares about that.

True, but the pay cut is temporary, just a base until I get re-established. My first 3 months will be what my last 6 have averaged. After that I'm on my own, but I'm not too worried. Just nervous about a new start.
