I did a few searches on L-Tryptophan, looks like I will have to order it as its not sold anywhere here. Has anyone had any luck with 5-HTP? I'm going to try the L-Tryptophan but I can easily geth the 5-HTP at GNC.

Hi Iron,

5-HTP is great, I had a lot of luck with it...the only problem is the effects aren't too noticeable at first. I stay way, way clear of any anti-depressants, so HTP was the best way to go. However, I took a lot (I'm not at the moment, it's not addictive, and not the kind of thing that you need to take all the time to keep the effects up). I took about 150-200 mg/day, one pill is about 50 mg, and since you're a dude, you might have to take more.

Don't Get it at GNC! 5-HTP is really, really cheap, and they'll probably overcharge you. I got a bottle of 45 50 mg capsules for $4 at target. Also, when I'm feeling shitty, I drink some herbal tea and take a bubble bath, but I suppose that might not be the best solution for everyone...

It works very, very fast. If it works for you, you will know inside the first few days, perhaps even the first day. I noticed the first day I took it. Gary reported similar experiences for himself and others.

Ha! I just read this...maybe it works faster in the powder form, but I've never tried that. Ah, conflicts in info...it took a few days to notice its effects...it was really fast for you machine?

He's talking about Inositol. Thanks for sharing your experience with the 5 HTP though I look forward to trying it also:)

I have to go pick up some protein tonight anyways so I'll go ahead and get some Inositol. If I take it before the gym will it be less effective if I also drink a caffeine/ephedra energy drink as I usually do before my workouts.

5HPT is a different substance than Inositol. Tryptophan converts to 5HPT; IP6 converts to inositol.

I've been on Prozac. Inositol worked better, faster, with fewer sides.

Remember, minimum 3 grams a day -- 6 was optimum for me; 4 - 10 is the range for most people. Take over divided dosages (1-2 grms, 3x per day); mix the powder with grapefruit juice as the nactin content will increase absorbtion.

you need to give the prozac time peak blood levels taje al ogn tiem to build up like 1 pill the 1st week then 2 the 2nd then 3..

how many did u go up to? youd be surprised afetr a month when it really kicks in how you feel, but you have to give it a chance.

I was on it for six months; you're right, it does take about a month to load. It helped some, but not enough. I don't remember my dosages on Prozac, but they were consistent with what the doctor prescribed. I did taper up when going on, and tapered down when going off.

Eventually, I went to Effexor -- Prozac simply wasn't doing it for me. No SSRI works for everybody in an optimal manner. After being on Effexor at 75mgs/day for awhile (another 3 - 6 months), I reached a point where it was time to get off the shit and start living again.

Let me tell you something. Effexor withdrawl is a bitch -- probably the worst of all anti-d/anti-a meds. Hot flashes, spots in the vision, piercing headaches, magnified noises, puking and rebound depression.

This is when, thanks to GaryWary, I discovered inositol. It almost instantly brought the rebound depression into check, and I firmly believe that it is as good, if not better, than many anti-d/anti-a meds out there.
