Boiling Chicken Breasts

New member
I've heard of a lot of BB'rs boiling their chicken instead of cooking it other ways. Does anyone know the benefits to doing this?
And...how do you cook chicken this way?

I did it for my first comp and only when i got down to the last few weeks. Boild chicken tastes like ass.

The discussion I got was about pullign out all the sodium etc on it and even grilling introduces carcinogins.

They do it close to competition time, to rid as much sodium as possible. No need to do it unless your like 2 weeks out from a show.

I don't like to boil it because I think it makes it tastes bland. When I do boil chicken for chicken n noodles I use just enough water to cover the chicken, cover, boil until done. I add veggies to the boiling water and it helps with the flavor. Boiling will take all the "grease" out of it. jus my.02 ;)

;) lol @ "The Shredded Badgergrl" ...you crack me up que!

Thanks for the info everyone...I thought it may have something to do w/ sodium. I might start doing this in another week.

Que: do you know how many minutes you boil it for? I'm a total retard in the kitchen.

About 15-20 mins depending on how big of a piece of chix it is......I just take it out & cut it in half to check....

Depending on the number of chicken breasts in the pot. If I have 3-4 then I do it for about 30 minutes give or take. If you cut them in half or use the chicken tenderloins it won't take as long. You can check them after about 15 minutes and see how quickly they are cooking.

BE CAREFUL!!!! My bf got food poisoning from that 4 days out from a show... Poor baby. He still bit*hes about that one....

by the way,I dont like the taste ...yucky :worried:

Try boiling with celery, onions and garlic. I would sometimes eat it with the cooked veggies for added flavor. I did it that way for pre-comp years ago and it doesn't taste too bad. I still boil chicken this way for chicken salad, so I dont have to put any kind of salt or salted seasoning on it.

So he just didn't boil them long enough? I normally overcook everything anyway because I'm so paranoid about that.

I boiled some today and I actually liked the taste of it. I think I'll start cooking it like this. It's easier for me since I can't use cooking spray or spices now.

:jarswim:*Grabs glass of water just IMAGINING the taste of boiled chicken breast. Blech!

LOL - well we must be weirdos because I've eaten chicken breast like this for YEARS and love it! lol

Its not that bad - my experience w/ it included eating it w/ flax seed oil on it- took me an hr to munch thru 4 oz the day before my competitoin. Bad associations w/ it now...

I actually love boiled chicken. I eat it every day for lunch and sometimes for dinner. If you boil it for thirty minutes you should be fine, even if it's overcooked it still tastes like chicken :)

Hmmmmm......anything w/flax oil on it is NOT a good thing!! lol I understand where you're coming from with this one! lol

I've never been a picky eater, and during this diet I've actually enjoyed some pretty bland stuff. I get all excited over simple stuff like mustard.
I guess I am a weirdo Scorp..cause I'm lovin' my chicken like this

Oh and I think the ground flaxseeds taste much better than the oil. The benefits are still the same, right?

that sounds kinda good :)

I make my chicken broth this way:
Chicken breast with bone NO skin...4 cups water per breast, once it begins to boil add, cubed zucchini, cubed carrots, stick of celery, parsley (branches) LOL excuse the terms...
Once it is cooked take away parsley and celery, add salt.
I finger/shred the chicken on a plate and then keep it in different tupperwares with broth with vegetables if refrigerated, if I freeze it, do not leave the vegetables in the mix.

Boiled chicken breast = yuck. But I'll tell ya, it could be worse. Last summer I was working outside in 90+ degree heat. As the temperature increased, it became harder and harder to digest meat. So, I had this brilliant idea that the chicken would go down easier if I added a little water and pureed it in the blender. As you might imagine, liquid chicken on a hot summer day is beyond gross...well beyond gross. Boiled chicken is just "yuck", in which case it is easily consumable.

Chicken scale:

Ummm...delicious (rubs belly) = southern fried chicken made in mama's kitchen
uber tasty = satay chicken
I'll take 8oz of that = stir-fried chicken
again? = baked chicken
yuck = boiled chicken
gross squared = liquid chicken

lol @ liquid chicken.

The idea to liquify chicken would never ever ever cross my lil old mind. lol.

I would rather skip a meal. Thats funny though! Ew. That is so gross!!! :)

I prefer to steam chicken if you need it bland. You can steam some seasonings with most steamers also. It's way juicier steamed vs, boiled imo.

Just throw 10lbs of breast in an electric roaster with your favorite spices and slow cook them.

WallyWorld sells a cheap electric roaster pan for $20.
