a friend of mine whos a bodybuilder suggested I go on here to stay motivated. Does anyone on here have a body-image disorder? If so, How do you deal with that on days that you get discouraged with yourself. :worried: ( Even though you are in excellent shape)
Thanks - Mon

Find a distraction. You know it's just in your head so take your mind away from it. Go for a walk. Do some chores. Go chat with someone. Browse EF.

How would you define a body-image disorder? "Im fat yet everybody tells me I look great???"

In my experience, people who have been fat before tend to "suffer" from this. We change faster on the outside than on the inside... our brains take some timeto get used to the new you. I know also the fear of being fat again is all too real, but guess what? is you with your actions the only factor that control that.

As for "never being where you want to be", well, who is ever? however, beware, there is a thin line between a perfectionist and somebody who is obsessed... Be the first, don't be the second. If 100 people tell you you look great, they can't all be wrong, right?

If you used to be a heavy person, self-deprecating behavior can be a learned or habitual behavior. It helps to "catch" yourself telling yourself that you're fat/ugly, etc and force yourself to stop & say something positive about yourself.

Also - when on the boards here -- you would most likely be 100% supportive to someone else who's discouraged/down, etc - why not treat yourself the same way??

EVERYDAY pick ONE thing (no matter what it is) to CELEBRATE about yourself.....Something, anything. And turn those negatives into positives. Do you have kids + stretch marks?? If so, celebrate the stretch marks as that's what it took to bring that child into the world, thus you are a better person for it!!

Come on over to the Women's Board also. Lots of support over there!!

You are all right - I was overweight at one point, and it still think like an overweight person although I'm not. I really appreciate everyones imput a lot! Thank you so much the advice.

i'm sure you and your body look great...a lot of people feel a little discouraged when they are busting their asses in the gym and still aren't satisfied with themselves...i would say like someone else said to just forget about it and think of something else - don't let it bother you and control how you feel...because let's be honest - you're working hard in the gym for your own good and to feel and look better - and results (in your case at least it seems) are showing since you used to be overweight and you're not anymore...your friend was right to suggest to come on and stay motivated...since i've been a member of the site community i feel alot more motivated and knowledgable at least about working out and stuff...makes me feel a little better and i'm sure you will feel better soon and if you have any questions or concerns you can always ask here and someone will be more than happy to answer them for you...buncha great people on the site i've noticed :)

so welcome and feel better about yourself and keeping working hard! we're all here with you :garza:

Sometimes, I work through my issues by realizing that I can get to whatever weight I want through hardwork and by reviewing my diet / workout logs. Right now, I'm at 205 @ 20%. Last year about this time, I was at 180ish and at 12%.

Sure, I spent half the day berating myself of the failure, but I figure that if I really wanted to get back; I could just go back to the old diet that got me to 180 @12%.
