Blood pressure, top number...

Ok Im posting this here because there is simply way more traffic and i'd like more than one or two responses.

Im not on gear and havent been for a while but recently my blood pressure jumped up and I started doing more serious cardio and the bottom number is under control at between 70 and 80, but the top number stays between 140 and 160?? I just turned 25 and I believe the highest it should be for my age is 135/85??

I weigh 295-300 but definatly not a fatass, iam a serious gym rat and I do watch what I eat, I dont know my bf% but its not out of control by far.

4 months ago when I was on cycle I weighed the same and it checked in at 135/75. So im thinking that lately ive had some serious financial stress coupled with stress from the opposite sex and that could be a cause in the rise??

So all in all why is the top number staying so high, what causes a high top number and what can I do to get that down because the bottom number has plumited in the last few weeks to where it needs to be??????????

All help much appreciated and im ready to dole out the karma!!!

The top number is the systolic pressure.......the pressure that is actually from the squeeze of the heart as it beats (the pump pressure).....

Get it checked, lay off all simple sugars and increase your water intake......get off ketosis if you are in ketosis (low carb).......SEE A DOCTOR!

systolic/diastolic any thing over 140 is considerd prehypertention. alot of things can raise your blood pressure, diet, stress, cardio, stimulants, gear, smoking, inactive. you can try takig a childs tylenol once a day and that will help to lower your bp.

I would monitor your blood pressure everyday as you rise in the morning.Get a good automatic machine from your pharmacy that fits you right.Do cardio adjust your diet watch salt intake. Is their a family history of hypertension in your family. That is a high number for your age. I am 35 on 500mg of test all year and my pressure is 110/65. If your pressure doesnt go down in a month go to doctor. Also stay away from caffine, and take a baby aspirin everday. Also check cholestrol.

Thats another thing, ive been measureing in a 13-17 inch cuff cause thats the biggest i have found and my arms are almost 20 inches, I have a machine and as it blows up i can hear the velcro stretching and can see it moving so I googled BP and I read on a site that if its not the right size it will cause it to read high???

Get it checked out. Happened to a friend of mine and it turned out to be a tumor on one of his kidneys.

My point is - that's not normal for someone of your age. Something MAY be wrong, find out what it is.

there are thigh cuffs out there, fyi....if need be, move the regular cuff down to your forearm and palp it. If you just want to measure your systolic, here is how you palp it. Just put the cuff on but dont pump it up (near the elbow on your forearm)...find your pulse in your wrist. pump up the cuff until you cant feel the pulse, then slowly let it deflate (while watching the guage and feeling for your pulse). When you feel your pulse again, that is your systolic pressure (usually about 2-4 points higher than the reading since palping it isnt quite as accurate.) This is a very easy way to quickly check your systolic...there is know way to check your diastolic this way, but that isnt what your concern is.

Yes that is true.

Your profile says your 25 - if that is true - none of those numbers are normal for your age, they're all high.

You need to have a professional take your numbers, also stress, infection, high blood sugar, even nervousness will give a higher reading.

Do yourself a favor deal with the stress in your life, pronto.

Thanks for the reply and yes I think its mostly stress and nervousness, I will be going for some bloodwork before I start my next cycle and I will get it checked by a professional hopefully with the correct size cuff then kinda go from there.

Thanks to all who replied and please keep'em coming.
