Blackberry vs. IPhone

New member
Hey peeps- Im replacing my very old verizon cell. I narrowed it down to the IPhone 3GS or Blackberry (Bold or Curve).

I like both- the IPhone has some very cool apps & looks cool. But, everyone @ work has the blackberry (& the BBM app would be great) & its considered more of an "adult" phone. :verygood:

What do you guys recommend? Any advice would be really helpful (if you hate one or the other- please tell me that too).

Thanks for the help :)

complaints about the iphone 4's bad reception all over the place rob.

i grabbed teh phone and covered the whole frame with both hands and i was in the bowels of a large commercial building and teh phone didnt lose a single bar. of course my data point of one does not a statistical analysis make, but still. The owner said hes not experienced any of the reception probs. i was impressed with all the other aspects of the phone.

If you get an iPhone get an iPhone 4. I have it and it truthfully isn't as much as a problem as people make it seem. I complain about it simply to spite Apple because I hate the company (lol 3000 dollars for the same computer components that Microsoft vendors charge 1200 dollars for.)

But don't get a blackberry. They are quite a distant 3rd place. It goes iPhone ~ Android >>>>> Blackberry > Palm as far as phone OS. BB OS6 has potential, but OS5 is lightyears behind the iOS4 and Android 2.2.

At the moment, I believe iPhone 4 is the top phone. For me, the most important factor is app availability. And nothing comes close to the iPhone app store. Tho I think Android is the future(ie mid/late 2011 and on.)

Do you like to use it as a phone or like a physical keyboard? Then go for the BB. Do you like to use it for something other then a phone? Then iPhone4 rocks the loudest with Android in second place.

Or, you could try each out for 15 days to make up your mind and return the ones that you don't like. I'm on day 5 of my Android phone as it's a wannabe iPhone (IMHO).

more for texting & calls- not so much web surfing (but do like the shazam app on the iphone).

Im out of contract now so dont think i could try each w/o having to commit to ATT or verizon. would they let you do that?

I buy it outright from the store, but I make sure that I understand the return policy. With Best Buy, their policy allows you to buy it and then return it before 15 days is up (at least for computer equipment).

Pick both. Return both of them before the 15 days are up. If you want to be tied to a contract, then buy the one that you like with the contract. If you don't, then buy it outright.

Hope that helps.

Last year I had a blackberry and loved it. I loved to BBM because it was easier than texting, but it gets so annoying. You are constantly connected to your phone because you keep getting BBMs. People can see if you read them or didn't read them so sometimes people can get annoyed. I switched to the iPhone 3GS because I saw how cool it was. You can do anything on it. You can use it for business too. I think its better for business than a blackberry because the internet on it is better and you can open word documents.

The iPhone 4 is cool too. It has a flash than the 3GS does not, but I like the 3GS better. iPhone 4 is like a brick and the screen is smaller. It's a good phone but not my choice.

i would go with the iphone4 or htc incredible. supposedly the "death grip" that kills the iphone4 kills other phones too and the dropped calls are probably due to the network (att) rather than the hardware. verizon has a better network.

Incredible fvcking rocks

I have a BlackBerry Curve - I would destroy a touch screen phone in about 10 minutes. I chose the BB because I needed something sturdy and pretty tough, but that I could text with easily, and still get on the internet if I want to. My whole family has BB's now, and we have no complaints. Not overly trendy, not overly gimmicky, easy to use and pretty tough.......and there are some cool apps for the BB's, too.....

my iphone is actually very tough, dropped on concrete multiple times, always putting it in my back pocket and sitting on it everywhere, sweaty/dirty hands on the touch screen and it doesnt miss a beat. i was very surprised actually.

Did you find one that you like, MsB?

yep! i got the Blackberry Bold :)

I think its alot more durable than the iphone, has all the apps I need & was bottom-line was FREE (since Ive been out of contract for 2 yrs).

Ive thrown it in my gym locker, floor of car, bottom of file cabinet @ work...etc. & its fine. I think the Iphone casing would be shattered by now! LOL

thanks for everyone's input (i think i hit everyone w/ karma!!:)

Blackberry for the Blackberry Messenger is a wicked app other than that i would say an Iphone....up here in Canada though the reception sucks for an Iphone

found this amusing. i was trying to talk to an iphone user about my phone the other day and this about sums up the attitude i witnessed.
