BJ Penn to replace St. Pierre vs Hughes September 23.

if you read my post, the fight will more then likely go on.....

For those that are a wee bit behind on current news:

The next pay-per-view UFC card is UFC 63: Hughes vs. Penn on Sept. 23 in Anaheim, Calif., with welterweight champion Matt Hughes defending his title against former title-holder B.J. Penn. Montreal's Georges St. Pierre was supposed to fight Hughes but had to withdraw last week with a groin injury.

Taken from here: Canuckski News, Eh

It sucks that St. Pierre got hurt, but I'm excited to see BJ Penn get the shot in his place. I think Penn can beat Hughes a second time...he shocked me the first time he did it (I remember looking at him and thinking "who is this baby-faced chubby guy?"), but this time I know what he brings to the octagon.

Penn has a punchers chance, if it goes to the ground Hughes will win. Penn would make a very weak champion he looks like shit, everyone that sees him laughs and says hes not a fighter. He has some skills but when he beat Hughes it was because Hughes overlooked him and put up one of his worst performances of his career. St. Pierre is a far better fighter than Penn and had a much better chance of beat Hughes IMO. Hughes is a freak of nature and pound for pound the strongest guy in MMA today.

everyone says that, but I've never heard ONE reference to a WEIGHT amount Hughes can lift

Thats because its immaterial - more important than his bench press or sqaut is the fact that in nearly every fight he is able to outmuscle his opponent and throw, move, and submit guys that weight the same as him. Thats the strength that matters in MMA

Absolutely, We are not talking about lifting weights here we are talking about his strength in the ring. He is a freak of nature. Tons of guys are strong in the gym but are nothing in a ring, Hughes strength is why he is the best in the world at 170.

yeah i am with that....hughes is mma strong...fuck i dont know what he dead lifts but he has no prob picking up calrlos newton, frank trigg...or the other 10 guys hes picked up and body slamed...but i am the biggest bj penn believer out there...i wanna see bj win it!!

I was going to see the fight when it was Hughes and St. Pierre, now I will be selling the tickets. UFC has put up week fight cards the last 2 UFC's and this is no exception. BJ Penn has excellent standup and powerful strikes, Matt also has excellent standup. Penn has a decent chance of winning if the fight stays standup. I would say that the ground game favors Matt Hughes. Their fight several years ago has little relevance on this match up, Hughes is a much better fighter today than he was then IMO. BJ Penn is more of an unknown...
