What constitutes dissidence? When is rebellion acceptable? When is murder justified?

First of all, I said dissent, not dissidence. Dissent is merely a disagreement, contrasting or contrary viewpoint. "Dissidence" implies a sort of dangerous political subversion.

Imagine for a minute that that the President gave a speech that mentioned "dissent in Congress". It would be a harmless and accurate observation of the current situation. Now, imagine instead he had said "dissidents in Congress". Entirely different connotation. There would be enormous political fallout from the latter statement. Such is the subtlety of language.

Yes they are... Your comparison is horrible. Dissent is a synonym of dissident. Both of your statements indicate there would be disagreements in Congress. You are making it sound like the "dissidents" are starting internal strife. Both words mean, "there is disagreements." The word you are looking for is "dissension." That word would fit better than how you used "dissident."
No. "Dissension" does not have a negative connotation, "dissidence" does.

You know, when a self-professed atheist thinks that religion is a good way to control the masses, it just completely torpedoes any sort of credibility. If you think it's okay to lie in order to achieve a goal, everything you say is suspect.

Religion gives a huge number of people comfort and helps them in their daily lives. It clearly serves some sort of purpose, otherwise we wouldn't have evolved for thousands and thousands of years with it.
I've just got this silly notion that if someone does want to hold religious beliefs, that we should leave them alone.

Lol@ you for disagreeing with me, and lol some more for you actually saying dissension does not have a negative meaning. You are right, "discord" is something positive. I guess discord is positive when your brain is not capable of attaining osmosis.
