He makes some valid points, there is no excuse for our piss poor primary education rating and it really is the fault of parents. We have great universities but working in a technical field, most of the people I work with were not born or receive their primary education in the US. My father really pushed education and particularly math when I was growing up.jestro said:USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! I think it's hard for most people in this country to admit that there are things we could do better. It's kinda wierd.
IMHO, most parents don't "mentor" their kids at all, not just education. They feed and cloth, and that's it.javaguru said:He makes some valid points, there is no excuse for our piss poor primary education rating and it really is the fault of parents. The HS I graduated from spends some of the lowest amounts per student in the state and continues to exceed the academic standards set by the State. However, it's a rural community and rural values are definitely present in the attitude of most parents.jestro said:IMHO, most parents don't "mentor" their kids at all, not just education. FDR was a solid C student too.....It's just as important, if not more so, to surround yourself with competent people.rnch said:true.........but keep in mind that the current temporary occupant of 1600 penn ave graduated from one of the finest universities....![]()

That was my point....you can be a dumbass and be an effective president if you surround yourself with intelligent and competent people. I posted another thread where Maher points out the #3 person in the justice department(Monica Goodling), responsible for overseeing the performance of all prosecutors, was a 33 year old graduate from Pat Robertson's law school(rated lowest tier) and never served as a prosecutor. As a matter of fact, over 150 graduates of Pat's law school(Regent)have served in the Bush administration.rnch said:like dubya has?![]()

agree! even though you are not a fan of JFK, you can admit he was smart enough to surround himself with competent people, republican and democratic?javaguru said:That was my point....you can be a dumbass and be an effective president if you surround yourself with intelligent and competent people. Appointments based primarily on ideology are a bad idea those alternate viewpoints are critical to effective decision making.rnch said:agree! even though you are not a fan of JFK, you can admit he was smart enough to surround himself with competent people, republican and democratic?
which could explain the stupidity coming from the current administration...opposing view points are not welcome nor tolerated there.javaguru said:Appointments based primarily on ideology are a bad idea those alternate viewpoints are critical to effective decision making.
"If everybody is thinking the same thing then nobody is thinking."- General George S. Patton.

if it had not been for alternative viewpoints and intelligent men stating their opinions AND a President open minded enough to LISTEN to their opinions our world could had easily been severely altered in october of 1962.javaguru said:Appointments based primarily on ideology are a bad idea those alternate viewpoints are critical to effective decision making.
