I am looking into buying a bike. I was into BMX racing and freestyle riding as a youngster, but I have long given that up. My buddy just bought a bad ass mountain bike and I have a couple of girlfriends that ride trails quite often. I am looking for something I can use to hit the trails, do a little urban assault, and cruise to the gym which is 4 miles away. I was thinking about a Specialized P2 or even a P1 single speed. Any opinions? I know there are some riders on here.

can't use single speeds on trails. buy one used--everyone upgrades

Depends on your budget... Eddy is right, do not go single speed.

Very nice!! I would be scared to ride it. Especially if I glued my own tires. :worried:

I'm sure you have seen this site - http://www.competitivecyclist.com/road-bikes I can day dream there for a few hours.

i got away from the sewups--the ride is great but the new clinchers are close---and i weigh too much..that is a great site---

yea PM, prostate is a mess from gear anyway from gear anyway--and you just need the right seat

I use Tufo's on both my bikes, one set is pretty shredded but never a flat. (Clincher)

I double my shorts... Use a tri short with the small pad then a pair of bibs, works great.

Thanks guys. I am now leaning towards a Specialized HardRock M4. I am looking at a used one on cragslist for under $300. It is a 2005 model. I will post up some pics if I get it.

I'm all about the stealth look.

do you like the behind the seat bottle holder?--i hate keeping an extra in my jersey

I like it, took me a few rides to get used to it. Holds a tire, tube and CO2 also. If you carry water in your jersey you might want to check out some of the fuel belt bottles, they are more curved to fit your body but they are smaller.

:)

had the worst lower back cramp after a ride--a friend said the cold bottle in the jersey was the culprit....either that or i am fat and out of shape

tried a camel back--but if you use one while on a read bike in colorado that throw you out :worried:

I have never heard that. I had back issues on my Tri bike. When ever I would hop on after a swim my back would also cramp and be in mild pain untill I hopped off. I went and got the bike fit and have not had the back issues anymore.

Yea no camelback, I like it hidden in my pack skiing, but not on the bike. I feel like a big enough douche with the Aero drink system on there, but I train on my LeMond not the Scott.

trizo, eddymerckx I'm going to try to get 40-50 in this sunday if either of you are going to ride.

I have a run on Sunday but might bring my bike also if it's nice. :)
50 miles is two laps around Mercer Island for me, perfect ride.

i wish i could--i did not ride all winter--a groin pull that would not heal and if i moved my heal a tiny bit on the bike--ughghghghhh not cool. i want to try for 15 on saturday....fingers crossed

Not many hills on my ride, minus the one getting back up to my house. Groin pull is not fun. Anything in that area while on a bike seat can be miserable and hard to heal if you train alot. Good luck bro, speedy recovery.

I like my specialized shoes, but they are a bitch to get on/off in transition. I would like to get a pair of Louis Garneau's but the ones I have work fine for the small shit I do.

Depends on your budget, I would say hit a shop and go try some on.

yeah I did check out one shop already, i have small feet, so the unisex shoes don't necessarily work for me... so I'm having some brought over from other stores and stuff.

I know Nike makes some worthy ladies shoes. Good luck!

i borrowed a pair of Nike's actually last night for a spin class, and they were so-so. anyway, thanks!

Sidi makes great shoes for women and men with narrow feet but they are not cheap.

pearl izumi makes decent cheaper shoes

Italians tend to have narrow feet so Italian brands like Sidi are narrow compared to US. Nike does not make their own shoe and some of their models were made by DMT, I think. Specialized changed mfr's this year so their 2008's are narrower than in the past. I have low arches and I have both 2007 Specialized and Lake shoes.

a razor blade and some moleskin made my carbon shimanos fit just perfect--albiet the outside midfoot sticks out through the holes----i get a few looks but i have happy feet

I just got my confirmation letter! Fuggin right.

I don't know any others, but my Sidi Genius 5 shoes... I got them for $140 instead of $250 and they're great for my really narrow flat feet.
