Bicep Pump

I've recently started doing some bicep only workouts (on top of my normal routine) and I just have a question on the awesome bicep pump. Towards the end of my workout(last sets of 2nd to last exercise) my biceps will be pumped up to the point where I can almost not touch my chest with my hands. I was wondering if this pump means that I have worked out my biceps sufficiently, like does getting the pump mean that you have stimulated the muscle to the point that it will grow? Or can you still get a big pump and not get any growth? thanks in advance.

the pump means u have extra blood flow to the area. in some kinds of training i.e. fst-7, he believes the pump hels stretch out the fascia so the muscle has room for growth. i'd say if u have a good pump, u've worked the muscle pretty good, but that doesn't mean it will get any bigger unless u feed it nutrients to repair/grow.

Let's face it, a pump feels incredible. a pump is the feeling that you get as blood becomes trapped inside your muscle tissue as a result of resistance training. The muscles will swell up and increase in size, vascularity and tightness. You are right it will not always cause growth but it sure as hell gets you motivated and it feels great.

iv never ever had a pump in my back, not even a slight one and its by far by best and strongest muscle group. Iv never had anything like a pump in my legs either and they are where I want them to be, not too weak but not my strongest. Iv never had any sort of pump in my shoulders either and they are my weakest muscle group in terms of strength.

My arms are all thats ever got pumped and they always seem slightly below were they should be when I compare to my forearms, neck and calves. However my forearms get pumped all the time and my forearms are pretty big.

So for me, getting a pump hasnt effected growth or strength gains at all.

I tend to not get pumps when doing strength training.

Yeah sometimes it interferes with your workouts dontchya think?

I think too many people focus on getting a good pump, when they should be focusing on progression.

um, what? how is not getting a pump a sign of overtraining???

If you do a workout that you normally get a pump with (ie 8 reps or more usually) and you are not getting a pump that often means that you are overtraining because your body is getting used to it.

Randomly googled it:
No Pumps, Sluggish and Tired? It's Overtraining! The 7 Signs You Are Consistently Overtraining

I just used this article because it was the first I've found. I've heard a lot of times that it can be a sign of overtraining if you don't get a pump when working out.

as i mensioned before iv never had a pump in any of the following: calves, quads, hams, glutes, every back muscle except lower erectors, delts, abs

I can be pretty certain Im not over training them and I have tryed doing the 20-30 rep range and nothin. Now maybe it is a coincidence, but I seem to have a very good circulation, I never feel cold even on a cold day Im at school in a t-shirt. Im always too hot, and most people I have asked have said I must have a good blood circulation. So I would expect this would mean I was prone to get a good pump? I also have a healthy heart rate, I can get it up very high despite my lack of cardio and resting it is usually 48-56.

So what is the reason that only my arms, chest and lower spinal erectors ever get any sort of pump?

Well like I said it's only overtraining if you usually get a pump doing it and then start not getting a pump. I don't think many people get pumps in the areas you mentioned, I get pumped in my quads when doing squats and get pumped in the calves when doing 20 rep sets for them, but no back pumps either. Wouldn't worry about it.

fst7..

all exercises are done in a limited range to exhaust the muscle, the last exercise is done on a machine and full range to achieve the pump, the idea is to stretch the facia, allowing the damaged area to get as much nutrients into that muscle as possible and to allow for the stretching of the facia to allow size enlargement of the repairing muscle..

Today I got probably my first big leg pump! Was at a different gym than usual so I did leg press at 540 for some 8 rep sets (normally don't have access to a good leg press), 225 for 5 sets of 4 squatting, and 3x3 at 145 for light front squats. During the front squats there were veins showing all over my legs, and my legs were super pumped! Great feeling...

Yeah I just like the light weight and high reps at the end. Some hypertrophy stim from a different intensity. I dont think it actually stretches the fascia from the inside out. Still it did help my biceps.
