BF% results

I had a professor of mine run some bf% tests on me today for shits and giggles to see where I'm at pre-contest. I'm about 6 and a half weeks out. Here's what we got:

10-site skinfolds:
Chest - 2.5 mm
Biceps - 3 mm
Triceps - 4 mm
Subscapular - 9 mm
Mid Axillary - 5.5 mm
Supraspinatus - 9 mm
Abdominal - 8 mm
Thigh - 11 mm
Calf - 8 mm
Suprailiac - 11.5 mm

Underwater weighing results:

18.3% BF!!

That's including interstitial!! Gotta trim down that back and legs and I'm good to go! Just wanted to share with ya'll. Lata!

18.3% BF!! ??? :eek2: :eek2: w/6 weeks left??

Ya.. like I said tho.. that's including interstitial fat (around internal organs for protection). With a regular 3-site skinfold I'm about 7%. The lowest I'll probably get using underwater weighing as a guide is like 11-12%. I'm not THAT far off.

k, the 7% is pretty good. What does the calculation of the 10 site test result in?

Each underwater weighing I've done gives you your bf results w/o the interstitial.

Body fat% is one of the most exaggerated things in gyms. I get a kick out of people that think they are 10% but don't have any veins showing in their forearms. 18% in underwater weighing isn't too bad. I have my BF measured in the bod pod. The first time I had it measured I was 25% but whenever I told people that no one believed me. They all thought I was about 12%. I'm down to 16% now and still dropping. I think a lot of lifters would have their egos crushed if they ever found out their real BF%

What is the different processes that you guys are doing in underwater testing compared to others (mine). I just got tested last week and was at 13%. Now I know that doesn't translate to 5% cause I KNOW I'm about 13%. If I had someone measure me with calipers accurately I'm sure it'd yield the same results.

I'm just curious as to how your guys' test is different? Thanx.

I don't really know how ours is different from anyone else's. We just did a normal underwater weighing and used the Siri Equation to come up with my body density and fat. We didn't bother calculating my bf% using the 10-site.. i just wanted to have a base point to see improvements come closer to show time. Thanks for the input bros.

horse: go to a university and go into the physical education building. There should be a professor you can make an appointment with that can do it for you. Other than that I dunno. And if that doesn't work, try to find a place with a bod pod.

hmmm interesting. I'll have to ask my trainer next time I go to see what equation they use. I just figured that all underwater tests measure just surface bf, or whatever you want to call it, but not interstitial bf, just as calipers and electronic impedence tests do. Cause like I said before skin calipers, EI, and H2O would all measure me the same, if done accurately. The H2O would not read higher than the rest.

Very good idea. I always have to have a baseline (bf and blood tests) before starting any program.

Keep us updated on your progress.

HP - Besides University's you should call local gyms and ask the Owners/Managers if they know of any place that does it. They usually will. I go to a local gym that has it's own facility to do the testing.

Thanks for your input everyone.. I'll be sure and let you all know when I get checked again and keep you all updated!
