Best way to get rid of mice

Ive got a rather large mouse issue in my detached garage,the fuckers went and made a nest in my bbq which is disgusting and im sure they nested elsewhere too,but I havent hunted them down yet because we are letting a friend store some shit in there.

anyways I cant use poison as Ive got a dog but I need other ideas so I can have my bbq back

i turned the bbq on and removed the nest but im guessing the fuckers will end up back there,im looking for a long term solution without moving as I like my house and my garage
