Best rapper ever?
Well this question is basically impossible to answer. Rap is still developing and the styles are dramatically different. Are we looking at freestyle, delivery, raw talent, influence, or perhaps most imporantly content. As far as main stream rap is concerned, my personal favs (including groups) include, Gangstarr, Dilated Peoples (main stream, well they made MTV), A Tribe Called Quest, J-5, Mos Def, Nas, and the late BIG L and NOTORIOUS BIG.
Anyways mainstream hip hop has essentially become crap. If you guys think Jay-Z is even close to the best rapper ever, its time to start listening to some real rap. The underground is great right now. Rappers like Slug from Atmosphere, Apathy from Demigodz, and Blackalicious are so much more interesting and entertaining. Their use of word play, storytelling, and overall content makes Jay-Z look, well, rather boring. Seriously, start downloading some underground stuff and then buy what you like to support their art. Seriously guys, go download some of the names I just dropped and I think it will change your perspective on hip hop.
I've been listening to rap forever, and people told me I would grow out of it, but I just had to go deeper into it to find really great music. I will always love it!
