Just wondering what you guys are using as post workout drinks?? Protein shakes? what kind of carbs should be taken after a workout?

simple carbs=anything sweet.

I get plenty of catbs from prolab brand "n-large." I mix two scoop with one scoop plain whey protein, and one tablespoon flax oil.

i swallow a drink that i buy from netrition.com
it has 215 grams of carbs, 50 grams protein, and 1/2 a gram of fat. It's 1090 calories, and has 8 grams of glutamine. I dig it. Tastes good too.

The 4:1 thing is about proteins effect on the gastric rate of emptying. It's too late for me to recall the whole story. I'll post again tomorrow.

You have a choice of flavor and sweetener, may be, you missed that part?
Also, for the quality and price, you can make it taste better yourself.
Personally, I don't care that much about taste, I use it only after workout, no big deal.

I have 2 favorite post cycle drinks. When bulking I use and absolutely love Twin Labs Super Gainer's Fuel. Remember it's the Super you want and not the regular Gainer's Fuel. When I'm cutting I love to take MetRX Lite. Remember it's the Lite and not the regular.

I posted before about a 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein in a post workout meal is a good target ratio. Too much protein in relation to carbohydrate stimulates an enzyme called cholecystokinin (CCK) which can slow your gastric emptying rate, slowing rehydration and recovery after exercise. To offset this effect, studies have shown that a post-exercise meal consisting of a 4 to 1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein is effective.

Of course this can vary from athlete to athlete. I got mixed up and said 40g protein for 100g carb before. Well, this is exactly what Dr. Colgan, a very highly respected scientist of athletic nutrition recomends after weight training.

Bottom line - EAT.
