Best place to live in Texas?

I like big cities. What is Dallas like? job market, real estate, traffic, etc.

Dallas is huge. I think the actual city of Dallas is not where you want to live. Lots of crime and poverty. But the metroplex is huge, lots of nice suburbs, and they say the job market is better comparatively. Real estate is cheap compared to California. I don't like big cities, so I live out in the boonies, but where I live there are huge mansions and ranches all around me. I don't like the weather, but I think it rates better than most places in US.

wow thanks guys for all the feedback. Well, seems like Houston is not the place nor downtown Dallas. Sucks bigtime hearing that everyday more and more illegal immigrants are over there....but that will be always a big problem. That's why Florida is fucked up. Too many immigrants, high demand in real state (prices go up), high demand for jobs (salaries go down), high density traffic, expressways are already 5 lanes wide and traffic doesn't move. Down in Miami for example a simple new townhouse 3/2 is around $230,000 while minimum wage is $5.15 and an average salary in Miami is around $25,000-$29,000. I'd say...that's a good average. And not to mention that social life everyday is getting worse in FL. Some years ago south beach was the shit! for everybody. Now is a gettho place. Gangs, crime, latin gettho, latin music, nothing else. Ft Lauderdale rocks for spring break but the "others" are getting there soon....

Thanks alot for the info. Those little cities in Texas like San Marcus, Denton area and some parts of Austin seems to be the place to live. For me, I'd go to Montana. But the cold kills me. I stay in the South.

you've obviously never seen housing prices in the NE or the West coast. Texas housing is as affordable as your gonna get. Curling if you have cash and want to be near Dallas check out Highland Park, College Park area around SMU. Hot girls from SMU (snobby bitches though) and great looking women everywhere. Its very pricey for Texas but the neighborhoods cant be beat. South Lake is 20 minutes from Dallas and another really nice town. 30 minutes from Ft Worth as well.

Real estate is a lot more on the west cost BUT the pay scale is also ALOT higher than in Texas.

I meant that here in Denton since it's a "college town" housing is overpriced.

But all the other Texas bros will tell you also...the traffic is horrible here.

I live less than 10 min from my job and it takes me atleast 30 min to get there and that's IN TOWN.

I feel for the poor bastards that have to comute to Dallas every day.

And I know I'll get called rascist, but all the illegal immigrant Mexicans are coming over here and destroying the once nice neighborhoods.

Is it really a nice neighborhood if illegal immigrants can afford to live there? They're all over L.A. but I only see them at bus stops and car washes.

Yes when the fuckin goverment buys a house and makes it a "section 8" housing.

Or when 20 of them move into one house.

I know what you're gettting at and you're wrong.

Beleive me.. I've seen one to many nice neighborhoods become Barrios.

I live on a street where the houses are on average $110,000 and up (which in Texas = a nice house).

It's already happening...The goverment bought 2 houses down the street from me and made them into "section 8" houses.

Now that end of the street looks like absoulte shit and good people are selling their homes and leaving.

Yeah in CA real state is a lot more expensive but I have a friend in San Francisco and he told me a good average salary is around $60,000.

Bro. Let's put something clear. Being against illegal immigration is not being racist. WTF? So if tomorrow Mexicans want to steal from supermarkets and you are against them you are racist?? Hell no!! Crossing the border illegaly into the U.S. is a CRIME that should be stopped and prosecuted. Going into any country illegaly is a crime. And Mexicans YES they are destroying the cities. They are nasty, they bring poverty, illness, crime, bad habits, poor culture and their music sucks bigtime! There's nothing wrong if you want and try to preserve your traditions and your environment in your own country. We should speak more about this in the whole country and LOUD so everybody can listen. And I'm telling you this cause I see here in FL how latinos are everyday destroying EVERYTHING. Sometimes I spend hours talking about this with my friends and at the end, the conclusion is

"There is good and bad people everywere. But that's a cheap excuse for immigrants. Because the realllity is the proportions. While in some places there are more good people than bad people, in other places there are more bad people than good people. And believe me. Most of SouthAmerican people is bad" That's a fact. Just look into the cities where they live. NOTHING works as it's supposed to be. From a simple gas pump that doesn't read your debit card, to a big company where you can't go in if you are not a relative of somebody or a friend of somebody. Still have doubts? Easy. Look at their countries. They suck. After Africa and some parts of middle east and Asia South America is the most poor continent. Africa, Middle east and Asia, have a lot of poverty caused by two big factors. Lack of natural resources and overpopulation. South America by itself has I'd say 10 times natural resources than North America and his population is proportional to the living area. So the only reason for that mediocrity and poverty is IT'S PEOPLE. A mediocre system made by governments chosen by people. Generations after generations. And they are coming here to do the same.

I'm sorry for the long post but I get excited speaking about what I call "undiscriminated immigration" because that could be the beggining of the decadence of The United States of America. And we should act NOW.

I had a friend in Atlanta that owned houses rented under Section 8 and they were always in neighborhoods you wouldn't want to live in.

Identifying a problem that hits home immediately is evident here in LA if youv'e ever tried to obtain affordable rental accomodations.

If you can only afford $400-$900/month rent and you CAN'T speak spanish; Forget about it. You'll either hav eto bunk with another person in a $1200/apt or chalk up the money for a more expensive palce. When i first moved to cali, I got a $700/month 1-bedroom here in lb. I was the only "non-spanish" speaking guy in the whole complex. People were actually amazed HOW i got the apartment. Most landlords do't like to mix spanish and non-spanish people in proprties. Presents problems plus the spanish are always bitching for the gringo's to move out so they can move their familes in.

To think only 4 years ago I had a $550 2 bedroom in CT! lol. Too bad salaries don't match whatever city you live in. I'd be living like a king in CT right now.

Illegals come and do the $2/hr jobs yes. But they also corner the market on low income rentals, bumping the price for everyone else. No one hears about that cause/effect mentioned in the news cuz it's not politically correct.

As for mexicans -- i have many LEGAL mexican friends who can't STAND the illegals. It's giving them a bad name and detest them with a passion. Can't say i blame them.

That's the problem. There's a lot of politics behind this issue. Unfortunatelly politicians are "selling" this country for votes and popularity. Nobody will throw the first stone because the first one loose. It's so sad to hear for example a monster city like LA with a lot of history, mysticism, early development, now is destroyed by immigrants. And I blame on all immigranst because unfortunatelly most of them are guilty. Just a minority of them are good for this country but it's impossible to look who's right and who's not. We should start by those latino channels. They are very dangerous giving support to illegals and imposing their nasty culture through the media.

Going back to big Texas, how much is an average good salary over there?
