Best "Arcade" game ever?

My vote would be Galaga
+1

Its ancestors "Space Invaders" and "Galaxian" were amazing for the late 70s

killer instinct.........ccccccccccombo braker.

oh thank god someone said it before me. Trying to find an old snes emulator to play it right now.

Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Combat are a tie for 2nd.

#1- Killer Instinct, then TMNT 2,Simpsons, Final Fight, Mortal Kombat 3,

After Burner with the cockpit you get in because no other game has been like it.

Street Fighter 2

That game was mega huge for a pretty long time. I remember going to the local gas station next to my school and spending 5-10 bucks in quarters every day and their would always be 3-5 people to play against.

God, I got ridiculous good at that game at 1 point. I could beat the game on the hardest setting in turbo I think. Of course at that point I was playing 3-4 hours a day, 7 days a week for a couple months after already playing it consistently for a couple years.

Toss up between Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat 2

Honorable mention: Killer Instinct 2, Mortal Kombat 3.

Oh, to be a kid again

5. X-men (street fighter based 1 v. 1 game)
4. Marvel v. Capcom
3. X-men (the one with like 6 people able to play at the same time)
2. Killer Instinct
1. Street fighter II

I grew up on MK2 and Killer Instinct. Both were badass, some MK3 also.

How about:

Elevator Action

Mr. Do

Dig Dug

The original Punch Out where you were just a see through green grid.

I loved Popeye personally

Wizard is about to die....pump in some more quarters!! What a perfect way to suck money out of the kids :). You couldn't just die and leave your friend all alone to fend for himself!!

Hehe the funny thing I forgot to mention was by scanning over this thread you can get a pretty quick & good guess at everyone's age. :)

Prolly Street Fighter 2.

Every gas station and convenience store that had one always had a group of kids that hung out there and played for a couple hours after school like every day.

The first Mortal Kombat was badass, but never got as big as SF2 imho.

I mean there were tons of tournaments for SF2.

Frontline or Elevator Action.
