Bent-Over Rows

Do you think there's any advantage to doing the bent-over barbell rows with a pronated grip versus supinated? I was geting intense pain in my brachialis region a few months ago when I performed BB rows with a pronated style grip, so I switched to an underhand grip and have had no problems since (while obviously being able to put up a lot more weight).

The thing is, I see the vast majority of serious lifters using the overhand style, so I'm wondering if I'm missing out on anything crucial by using this style of grip. I have read that an underhand grip involves more of the biceps and lower lats, which is fine by me since I only do 3 sets of barbell curls per week and I can't do pull-ups right now because of that unbearable pain in my forearms.

So again, if I were to exclusively use the supinated grip, how would my results differ from the guys that always use the pronated grip?

I honestly think that grip has a lot to do with you're ability to lift more weight. It also defines target areas differently.
Do you use weight lifting gloves with wrist support? If not, i'd recommend buying a pair. Stabilization in your wrist might have a positive impact on how your forearms are balanced while doing an exercise such as the bent over row.
I did a lot of dead lifting with a knuckle up grip for a while without gloves, and it started killing my forearms... then i threw in some forearm exercises and a decent set of gloves and bam, no more problems.
knuckle up

overhand grip, upper back/rear delts/traps/arms

underhand/low back/middle back..........

I alos find it takes alot more effort to stabalize properly with overhand than underhand

I DONT USE A BELT

Best to alternate grips.............you will be missing out if you dont do overhand grip

the grip does change the area it hits some but it is mainly where you bring the bar up to. with the overhand grip you can bring it up higher. If you use the same grip and bring it to your abd then you will hit a different part of your back.

The underhand grip range of motion is different so this is why it feels as if you are hitting the lower and mid back.

I am a big fan if High Rep Bent over rows with an OVERHAND grip bent full over

to be done at the end of a conventional back workout.

Rows are just supplemental to deads, so as long as your supplemental lifts are balanced so you're whole back is taxed evenly, you should have no worries.
