I no this has probaly been asked a thousand time but what is the best shirt for my first i am a 165 and im good f0r 315 raw my dad uses double open back inzer but i was wondering if that was to much shirt for me never tried one before and im lookin to do a bench meet in 3 months thanks

well if your dad uses an Inzer and likes it AND knows how to bench with it..I think logically a double denim ( same shirt as your dad) would be your best bet.

All shirts have slightly different grooves if your a belly bencher denims the way to go..metal makes awesome shirts as well but the groove is a bit higher..

I have both an Inzer DD and a Metal Viking..the shirts are different and once i get other things squared away with my bench ill be able to see which i like better

Depends on the federation? Some allow only single ply closed back poly and some allow anything you can squeeze your ass in. A decent shirt for a decent price is a Titan Fury, I've never used one but it's good to start out with considering the weight you can handle.

[the meet im entering is a state meet at the fair anything goes then from there i would like to compete in APF with my dad but want to get my shit together first..thanks for the help

btw excellent numbers for a young man! Congratulations, you should have quite a future if you continue to work hard.

thanks..... i hope i do well with the shirt my dad talked me into the inzer dd open back like his so i orderd it today hope fuly i can learn the grove well enough in three months what kind of poundage is average for the shirt to add?I know its different for everyone just wondered an average?what would be good for my weight class at 165?thanks to all again for the help

That kinda shirt could add 100-150 if you can "jack it up" right. At least 75 from the start. I would suggest throwing in some boards first and attempting to bring it down to your chest with sub-maximum weigts... if you can.

If you can't get it to touch, you can also move your grip in, hope this helps!!!

[i tried it out for the first time today..i went to 375 off three boards for a triple felt wierd ass hell almost threw the first one on my face havent taken anything down yet will probaly go down to 2 next week thanks for the advice its going to take some gettin used to

next questuin how the hell do you get the weight to your chest i cant get 375 passed three boards by the time i got it 2 one board i was ready to pop and the bare was damn near to my belt..any suggestions would be great my first meet is 7 weeks away

[i tucked them hard as i could is there a chance i measured wrong and the shirt is to small>it is my first shirt it fits alot tighter than my dads does on him and its the same shirt i guess i will just have to keeping playing with it..or get strong enough to lock out 450..that should go down

[no that i did not do..im i screwed do i have to get another shirt?

no, just keep practicing in the shirt, work on your set up, get your stomach as high as possible, arch as big as you can, pull your shoulder blades together, bring the bar low, wet the shirt, and tuck the elbows as much as you can. and try bringing it down a bit faster if you can, be agressive with it.

[thanks i owe you all im going friday to just practing lowering the bar this is the first time my back and lats got sore from benching i will wet it and give it a try thanks again i will let you no..is it okay to practice lowering the bar with side spoters if i just did it monday

With the advent of Bench shirts and Squat suits Powerlifting has become artificially inflated.

There is not a single person out there that can break Kazmaier's 661lb Bench Press without a shirt. He would have done 700+ if it werent for a pec injury.

Gene Rycelak thinks hes a badass throwing up 900 as a bench specialist, but has never broked 625 without a shirt... Props to him but shirts are a joke... Whats next? A nano-suit that simulates muscle fiber and allows 4,000lb benches?

661 raw has been beaten, medelson has done over 700 twice (raw) in competition, james henderson has as well, there are several of todays top benchers that can do well over 600 raw, but choose not to compete that way. kaz was great, no doubt, but you cannot take anything away from the best today either.

Agreed, Today's best are monsters and strength legends, however I just think that the numbers are inflated due to the bench shirt.

My point was not to say that Kazmaier had the best raw ever, but to say that a feat like Medelson or Kazmaier's should go down in the record books as WR's, not these inflated bench shirted lifts.

Why not give Medelson the WR @ 713.2 lbs and not some bullshit inflated 975 pounds.

Yes 975 pounds is an amazing feat even with a shirt, however it makes a man like Kazmaier @ 661 or Medelson at 713.2 look like a pussy, when in fact both are truly stronger.

Shirts are an inflation of true strength and should be banned.

I can bench raw 530 lbs. If I train for a year with a bench shirt and hit 662 can I walk around saying im a 662 lb bencher. Fuck no.

Why dont we just lower the basketball hoop? Make the Football Field shorter? How bout soccer goals bigger? Ya that'd be a great way to prove that today's athletes are getting better and better...

I guess in our quest for the 1000 lb bencher we will take it any way we can get it...
