Bench Press PR 305

Mike_Rojas

New member
I did 295 PR
then 305 PR
then 315xmiss

If I hadn't done the 305 first I might have got 315. Oh well I'll get it soon enough.

On another note I had to have my cat put to sleep today. I know this should be on the chat board, but I like you guys and gals here more. She was only 5, she got sick really fast - liver failure, diabetes, kindey problems, pancreas problems. It's really hard to lose a pet like that.

Good job man.

I remember, during the time when I maxed at 305, I could rep 235x7. Then, I got to where I was repping 265x7, yet I could only max at 315! Even though I could rep 30 more pounds for the same reps, my max only went up 10lbs...

Thanks everyone.

I don't know how powerlifters can make 3 attempts of each lift in the same day.

The 305 wasn't easy, but I think I had a little more in me.

Now I could buy one of those "Bench Press 300" t-shirts :)

That's pretty damn impressive there. I hope that wasn't done in your basement without a spotter though...
So are you doing high or low volume with bench training?
Good luck on 315.

Done in power rack in my garage. As far as volume is concerned, I've been experimenting with different things. For instance my last bench workout was warmups, then 275x4, then 255x3 reps x 5 sets. Also hitting a lot of heavy declines. I think the most important part is to be making PR's, and to back off for a week when you start to get burned out. My frequency is 2-3 times a week on bench related moves. My max on June 3 was 275.

Thanks joker, I should show you the video I made a few months back when I almost got decapitated trying to decline bench 300 without a spotter before I had a power rack. That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

It took me all week to get around to 3 maxes. I was wondering the same thing!

Congrats on the PR bro. I think I remember you mentioning you hit 315 on decline a few days back? If so 315 on flat should be yours in a couple of weeks tops.

BTW, my cat has Feline AIDs as well, and i've had him for almost 10 yrs. He's very special to me, and I know how it feels. Keep your head up and focus on those 3 wheels clanking as you pump them up and down :)

*LOL* I've almost cut myself in half rolling the bar down my waist before I had power rack.;)

Live and learn, man. I think we all have to have done it at one time or another.

Yeah, I hit 315 on decline last week. I like to use declines to build up confidence in heavier weights. I'll get that 315 soon enough, and I'll video it for pointers from the experts.

For everyone that sent condolences for my cat - thank you, I appreciate it.

great job on the pr, our family cat had to be put to sleep this summer, it was only a year younger than myself, so i grew up with that cat, miss it a lot. I know what its like.

sorry about your cat man......Im a pet person too. I left work one time cause I couldnt stop crying when my dog of 16 yrs had to be put down.

Nice bench work bud!!!!

I've noticed the same thing in the past. If you want strength, I think it's best to train with low reps (like 3-5).

hey mike whats your max parallel squat?

Haven't tested in a while, but I would guess about 350. I have serious form problems that I'm trying to correct. I've been squatting pretty light trying to correct form and doing heavy good mornings to build up my back and hams.
