bench grip width

I was benching today, and tied my old PR of 195(raw, go me! 5 more lbs til i get 200) I did it with i thought was a wide grip (pinkes right on power rings) but than a few of the guys i was lifting with , wanted to fuck with my bench. So they had my move my hands out to index finger on the power rings. When i first tried it, my speed off the chest was slow, so they tought me how to drive th rough my heels to get the inital motion going.

Is there any advantage to going w/ a wider grip , aside from the fact that your shortening your bench stroke?

I have recently started doingthis for 3 reasons:

1> Decreased bench stroke

2> Decreased shoulder rotation

3> Increase potential of bench shirt

For me, with traps pinched tight:

Close...14inches
Medium...13inches
Wide (pinky)....11inches
XWide (Index)...8.5inches

That's with no arch. :)

Well a bench shirt will have my arms pulled tightly straight in front of me, right? The further I stretch it, the more counterresistance (kinetic spring action) it is going to generate. Like pulling a rubber band a few inches from your finger before firing vs pulling it to max length before firing...which will shoot further/faster?

haha, oh yeah, what the hell was i thinking??? I'll just disregard everything you said, and wait for bench or PLJay to answer lol.

Once you get your new Titan shirt, you'll be the woman who knows all about bench shirts.

Either way, i either need a sudden jump in strength, or a good bench shirt, because i have to bench 225 by the time i get back in school

team NJ wants to turn me into like a powerlifting prodigy. So they're fixing my form and stuff, giving my pointers. And also, one of my goals is to keep up with Ray Benemerito when he was my age.... and he said that when he became a sophomore, he benched 225. So im aiming for that.

My lifts have definately gone up since i started training w/ them. I went from squatting like 240 x1 to squatting 245 x 3 deeper than i was before.
My bench went from a struggle with 175 x 2 , to a 195 bench.

I havent trained daeds with them yet, so i dunno how thats going.
