Beltless squats for abs and back?

Has anyone else tried squatting without a belt? This is the best ab workout I think I've ever had! My abs actually get sore. It hits the spinal erector and obliques as well.

yes i always do squats with a belt!! it actually helps your abs if you do squats with a belt it helps with your obliques gettting to big but yes i can also feel sore in my abs when i squat

i got rid of my belt around 6 years ago and never looked back. for general training, strengthening your core musculature is done well by beltless squats. if you are max effort lifting in a competition, then a belt would be a must...just to keep up with the rest of the competition. in regular training rely on nature's belt, your own muscle system.

front squats will really blast your abs too.

I don't feel it in my abs when squatting without a belt ...

My abs seem to be exceptionally strong though.

no belt pal. no wraps, no suit, no bullshit.

When i used to compete yes i did the suit thing, i hd to to be competitive, plus it looked good. lol

But now that im into lifting for size, why take away from the exercises with useless training equiptment? Lift smart/safe and no need for them.

PS. My deadlifts have gotten better since i stopped using the belt.

It seems i have more flexibility to get lower and to keep my but down. Or maybe its becouse iv lost the fat around my waist!!!!!! MUHAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I stopped using a belt a long time ago and now my abdominals & lower back muscles are a lot stronger and tighter. I guess you could say I have my own built in belt now.

Weight belts are a crutch that "most" people can do without. Especially since about half the people in the gym I see wearing belts don't even understand what they're for, (increasing hydrostatic trunk pressure, not a back brace).

I used to wear a belt for every excercise. I powerlift so I think I'm only going to use it for the heavy stuff. I haven't developed enough nerve to try deads beltless.

I put on a belt when I go for a suited max... I also wear anything and everything that I can when doing events...lol

I train everything else raw though...

i tried ditching the belt, but it didnt feel right. I wore a belt the other day for squatting, first time since early early january, and it felt great, my squat form improved 10x and i did more weight. I know my core is weak, but im working on it, hopefully in a year or so i can ditch the belt during training.

I think its better without a belt my back usualy hurts when I use one and when i dont use one i get a alot better leg workout.
