I went to a camera shopp in my town to develop some film.

on the floor I saw 50 dollars, I then went up to the clerk and asked if it was any ones......and all the people there nodded no.

so i said to the clerk, if no one claimes this 50 dollar bill in 2 weeks I'll come back for it if you don't mind.

the clerk was a young guy...any way I came back 1 month later, and sure enough it was there in the lost and found.

so i took it, and and thought o my self........oh I'll go buy the cd's that i wanted to get, or go get those lifting gloves that i have been wanting, or i buy a nice shirt....then I had had a thought...why not use this money in a productive way.

so I saw a guy who was down on his luck and bought him lunch,

and then went to get some ice cream for my mother, and ended up buying 4 kids some ice cream that jsut got off school.....the smile on those faces, and the thankfullness of that guy who needed lunch was the best 50 bucks I ever spent.

actually i thought about that briefly.....enlightened self interest is what you may call it.....but I say no....

it felt good to do a good act purley for the sake of the act itself.

thats why sometimes I think that our purpose as humans is to derive pleasure from life by making others happy.

well after you got drunk you may hit on that granny who has been eying you at the bar....so in effect you would have done a nice thing as well by making grannies day

right? so the 50 bucks went in you as beer, but you gave granny some love in return.....see your a nice person too

but the trick is too keep giving strtaegically, despite this realization. because if you stop giving there will be even less for other to have out there who really need it.
