beginner training

New member
hiya im quite new to the gym, been going since end of june. im wondering what type of sets/reps i should be doing.

for example someone recommended me do 4 sets of bench with 12, 10, 8, 6 reps with increasing weight. does this apply to other excercises? for now im doing 3X8-10 for everything else...

i was also told that for first 2-3 years its ok to work everything out and go 3 days a week before i start trying stuff like the 5 x 5.

im also young so i was hoping to avoid any exercises that could inhibit growth...

any (positive) input would be appreciated, thanks a lot guys!

ive been browsing the forum a while and i realize im nowhere near alotta the guys here, but im still liking it a lot and hope to continue with full force!

:)

Keep it simple and hardcore. Moderate weights will allow your body to continue to grow at its normal pace.

Use BARBELL exercises and create a solid base.

PM me if you have any questions.

I have only been training for a couple months and have found the 5x5 method to be great. Nice and easy to follow.

stick to basic compound moves, squats, deadlifts, goodmornings. overhead pressing, bench presses, barbell rowing, pulls ups if you can do them.

5x5 is a good place to start, when i started many moons ago i used that for a while.

learn as much as you can too, you can never stop learning about training, or your body.

youll see your fastest gains right now, take advantage b/c it only lasts for a year or two. Eat a lot (but still good) and just lift hard. stay on the boards and we are here for any questions you have. How old are you?

2-3 years???
Fuck that dude!

Depending on what kind of initial shape you are in, if you're an active fellow already and in fair shape. Spend a month getting your body used to the weights. Medium weight, higher reps, that sort of thing. Let your tissues and ligaments get used to the weight. Then start to move towards a 5x5. Since you've been going since the end of June, I'd say you should start the 5x5 program in the next 15 minutes, like NOW. Your body should be ready for it.

good chioce on jioning in
don't worry about not being up to the level of some of the members, everyone starts somewere, i rember what it was like when i started out
the one thing i will recomend because i wish i had doen it when i started, is get your deit in line now too.
that will make as much, if not more, of a difference in your physique and performance

I think the most important thing to do right from the start is figure out what you want to achieve from working out. Your goals will determine your training, which will be tweaked and changed along the way.

First and foremost, check out the stickys like they suggested.
Next, post your stats (ht, wt, bf, etcetera) and goals (bodybuilder physique, strength, endurance, sport specific...) so we can get an idea where you are and where you want to go.
Then stick to this board and ask a lot of questions...but be open to the advice that others give you. Don't worry about how long you'll see "beginner" gains...and don't set limits on your ability to make progress. Everyone needs to switch things up every once in a while.

We're always happy to give you our opinion! :D

hey guys no laughing please... thanks for all your help!

im 5' 6" and 130 lbs. when i started i did literally 0 excercise and weighed 115 lbs lol. obviously im making nice gains, but i just wanna make sure im not resting too much or too little. im eating more and taking some protein and hope to gain a lot more weight.

im goin for strength/physique... (i realize there are people here more than twice my weight :D )

well thanks guys!
